Nathaniel Evans is an activist. He has linked himself to different venues of care within the nonprofit field. His professional history is one of diversity; he has worked within organizations to address HIV/AIDS, reeentry and homelessness issues. In addition, he has worked directly with advocacy campaigns such as JLUSA, Vocal New York, Ban the Box and other political forums. The purpose of this work, for Nathaniel, is to ensure that equality is not just a fancy phrase but a term that must be actionable. Being that this is the case, Nathaniel is in the process of estashlishing an organization named, I AM THE DATA which will address systems of harm via direct advocacy, public speaking, social media context, workshops/trainings and linking with other orgnizations that also seek to make a difference for the lives of others. Currently, Nathaniel is developing a platform with Leslie Robinson, President, Beyond the Bars LLC (Rechargethegame.com) that will directly address the systems of people, not just blanketed systems.
About our discussion he says, "What is public safety? Is it to watch traps and say hum, they are not there? Public safety is the ultimate protection of life and liberty above that of systems of beliefs and/or principles. If laws or ways of harm are incorporated within selected communities or person then there is no public safety to consider or to enforce within these communities. The desire of a thing is the power of it. If we continue to harm one another to increase our desires, that which empowers us, then this cycle will continue unabated."
