Kids and parents are already making plans for summer as the end of the school year quickly approaches. And now, more than ever, there’s no child that should be left out in the summer, with nothing to do. Twenty-five years ago sports camps were not much more than a summer diversion buttoday, they represent a huge part of the youth sport landscape–with camps and clinics devoted to nearly every major sport for every age and ability. Regardless of what kind of camp you’re looking for, it’s important to find out about the staff, instructors, coaches and kids who’ve attended in the past.
Think about your reasons for sending a child to a summer camp or clinic. There can be a number of reasons for having your child participate. It’s a good idea to discuss goals before you make a final choice.
One of the most valuable things that sports camps can teach kids is good sportsmanship - how to be gracious in both victory and defeat. And often, with parents absent in a camp environment, support that is provided by skilled coaches and staff can help kids learn real life skills, in addition to sport specific training.
