Making the Most of Major Change

Beyond Lip Service welcomes Cara Lumen, The Vision Distiller and host of Passionately on Purpose radio, is an internet marketing expert who helps entrepreneurs put their passion to work in a business they love. She is a Book Yourself Solid Coach and International Author. Today we're going to talk about how to use change to move forward in your life and business.

Today, we will talk with Cara about MAKING THE MOST OF MAJOR CHANGE

What makes us have to consider change?
I'm moving half way across the country in a few weeks and the lessons are enormous.  The steps I am taking to put my worldly possessions in a truck and fit them into a new environment are the same steps we need to take in business in order to keep aligned with our purpose and our passion.

    Crossroads appear for many reasons.
We complete something we have been doing, like going to college.
Our children leave home and the dynamics of our daily life change
We may have lost our job or fear we might lose it and we have to make some new plans
And a crossroad may appear simply because it's time to change.

    What do you need next?
Your goals should be in sync with where you see yourself in the time ahead.
Write them down A very simple tip and a very effective one too. Write your goals on a piece of paper and paste it somewhere which can remind you every day that you need to get them.

What do you need to take with you? What will fit?
I'm juggling what I own, where I'm going and what I have outgrown.
Check out what you have outgrown.
Part of change is visioning how you want it to be where you are going.

    Track progress... Extremely important
My progress is currently very visible- how many boxes are packed and how much I have managed to give away.

How do you want to be seen in your new environment?
We are both doing book proposals and have to begin to add to our image.  How we do that affects how we will be seen in our new position.

How do you want to be seen after this change?
Who do you want to play with, learn from, hang out with, know?
These decisions help attract those very elements to you.

What is the rhythm you want to embrace?
Moving is huge and is a great opportunity to change your rhythm.  I love what I do and work at it six days a week because I have such a good time, but I am interrupting that cycle with packing so now I get to choose what I want my days to look like. I'm going to have access to a pool and a gym and a lake.  Do I go for a swim first thing in the morning or in the afternoon?  When and where do I walk? How often do I want to be with my family?  These are all choices to be made to create a new rhythm that nourishes and supports me.

Any time you make a change you get to rethink your rhythm.  That's why vacations are good.  That's why we sometimes make allow ourselves to catch a cold that makes us go to bed for a few days, so we can stop and contemplate.  It's much easier to schedule contemplation time into your life than force it by getting sick.  Journal, get in touch with what you love to do, what you want, how you want your life to work, what rhythm you want to embrace.

When making a major change check in with your self and ask how does this feel?
Your emotions are the major barometer to what is right for you and how you should be aligned. When you decide on a change and start taking the steps to make it happen, notice how you feel.  My mother called it "journey proud" when you get excited about the prospect of what you are about to do.

I'm looking forward to swimming as a form of exercise.  I'm looking forward to meeting new people and to gathering for family dinners and game nights.  In my business I'm excited about my book proposal and writing the Passionately on Purpose course and teaching it.  There was a lull before this fell into place.  I quiet time when I had completed one thing and was simply waiting for the next sign and the next opportunity.  And they showed up.  Let your emotions guide you to the right interpretation of how you want to change you and your business

Involve others  Be guided by who offers what.

Welcome failure  - learn by your mistakes
I'm not a fan of the word failure but I'll sure go along with learn by your mistakes. Be open to change. Be flexible. And listen and look for what the universe is telling you.
