This week’s Beyond Lip Service, our BlogTalkRadio.com show was filled with great information from Tricia Neves, www.hiringbydesign.com. We talked about career transition, yet many of her ideas apply to gaining clarity in many areas of your life.
Her list to gain clarity for your perfect career include:
#1 Make a list of every job, paid or volunteer, that you have ever had. Then make a list of what you love and hate about each job. This is not a pros and cons list, this is about the emotion that you felt around each task within that job.
# 2. Ask you family and friends about your strengths. Many times we can’t see our strengths as they may come natural to us; that “if I can do it anybody can do it” mentality.
Sometimes these can be your natural gifts as well.
#3 Write a schedule for your ideal day. Add to the list everything you do for what time you get up to what environment makes you happy. What is the trend in your ideal day, do you like to do things alone or with people, do you like to do them early in the day or late?
Like any transition, a career transition is a process, rarely a straight line. Be patient and allow time to explore opportunities. Create time for inquiry into not only yourself, but the ideal jobs you have identified.
Stay in balance, and stay in touch. If you have been laid-off stay in touch with old co-workers, network, let others know what you are looking for. Most people really do want to help, so let them know haw them can. Perhaps it is an interview with someone with your ideal job… you might be surprised what looks like an ideal job, may have areas you hadn’t considered.
