  WOW!! What a joyful and productive week this has been, maybe I've been so productive because I'm snowed-in... Anyway, since tomorrow is Christmas, (yes, I will have a white Christmas for the first time in years) I decided to get Best Impressions out a day early.
  
  I know this is a busy time of year, but many of us have begun to reflect on what we have done and where we are going. One way to jump-start into your new year is to look for cool ideas from other industries and re-configure them to work in your industry.
  
  In Beyond Booked Solid, Michael Port calls it cross-appropriation. Cross-appropriation means taking something from another source or industry and making it work in your own niche. As you come across new ideas eagerly cross-appropriate. Proactively review everything you are learning. Never read passively. Annotate, mark, model... Think of the ways what you are learning can be used in your professional world.
  
  Be bold. Be creative.  Rapidly prototype your new ideas.  A prototype is just that—a beginning. Continue to refine and re-develop.  It will evolve into what works in your industry.  Each time you see an idea that you think will work for you, write it down. Next to the idea, write the various ways you think you can use the idea in its current form, and then write all the ways you can improve the idea!
