Being a guest on Leontyne's show was my first experience with either radio or a "formal" interview. She went out of her way to make sure that I was comfortable with the process, and everything she said about how the show would unfold was accurate. I really appreciated her sensitivity to my nervousness as well as her very easy-going, laid back nature. She kept saying that it would be just like us talking on the phone... and it was! I am very grateful to Leontyne for the experience and the opportunity to discuss an issue that is close to my heart. I am also very excited about our new friendship and look forward to combining our parallel beliefs and diverse expertise to accomplish great things! I also look forward to many more opportunities to advocate for older foster youth and share my expertise with others. If Leontyne has asked you to be on her show, you are in the hands of a great interviewer, a critical thinker, and above all, a caring and warm person. You won't regret it!

I am so blessed to be able to speak to eager listeners who have made a pledge to stand up for the voiceless among us. Today's show was hosted by one of the most passionate and detailed host I have ever sat with. Leontyne engaged me and allowed the conversation to naturally evolve to achieve the greatest good. After the show, I was bombarded by scores of comments from listeners and others who could not get in. Here is a snapshot of those positive comments from loyal listeners via social networking and email: 1. @bradbechler, thanks for the lovely show. It was a powerful display of compassion. 2. Mr. Brad, your show was so great. You and the Host were joined at the hip, and it flowed well. I learned something about giving. 3. Great show, Brad. How can I get your book, again. 4. @bradbechler, now I understand why you are on Twitter so much. 5. I loved the format. Although it went down to the wire, it was too short. I could listen to this show all day. 6. Mr. Bechler, I don't often find compassion like you in Men, especially our Black men. 7. @bradbechler, I cried while listening to you and the host. I was moved.

Enduring Strength! What a great show. Brad is a blessed man who is a mothpiece to so many. God protects where He directs and He provides where He guides.

Volunteering is Phenomenal!!!

Volunteering is Phenomenal showcases stories of people who give. Join us on Wednesdays @ 7:00 pm EST as we welcome guests who share their journeys, and the role that volunteering has played along the way. Leontyne Anglin is your host. She's a master networker and brings her genuine admiration for people to the guest interviews, hopefully inspiring listeners to pursue opportunities in their own lives that bring them joy.

Ordinary Citizens Appointed by Judges as Child Advocates

    "Volunteering Is Phenomenal."

I can think of few things worse than making time to volunteer only to find an empty experience that made no real impact whatsover. Perhaps for those who only volunteer to slap something new on their resume, it doesn't really matter. But for the people (young and old) that believe strongly in volunteerism, "phenomenal" opportunities to touch real lives are definitely within reach.

Imagine an ordinary citizen appointed by judges to advocate on behalf of children in the foster care system. The program is called CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).
"More than 850 a children a day enter the foster care system in the United States -- nearly 6,000 a week." [source National CASA]

The statistics honestly floored me but they are real. So many of these children are literally forgotten in a completely overburdened system. As a CASA volunteer and recruiter, I can tell you that it's not easy work but one of the most important roles people can play.

Whether your preference are infants/adolescents who can barely speak for themselves or teens who will soon 'age out' of the system to enter society on their own, you can give these children a voice.  Dr. Phil and Robin McGraw have recently been named national spokespersons for the National CASA's Forgotten Children Campaign which will hopefully help to raise awareness.

Learn how you can "speak up for a child." Visit the National CASA website to learn about the Forgotten Children Campaign and local opportunities in your area.
