Burbank, CA, December 19, 2012 - Presidential Volunteerism Award recipient Shanaya
Fastje’s book, Bully In The Mirror, is teaching educators, parents, and especially teens how to how to cope with bullying in an effective way by building self-esteem and confidence.
Thirteen year old Shanaya speaks to thousands of children in schools across the country, inspiring them to make a change with her anti-bullying program. It also shows teachers and parents what kids endure when being bullied.
She has been commended for her efforts by organizations such as the ACLU, MADD, and the United Way. For Shanaya, the thousands of heartfelt letters from kids who read the book and hear her speak are gratifying enough. Like the letter from young Brian in Texas, which reads, “I wanted to thank you for making me stop thinking that I wanted to kill myself, and I did stop thinking of it. You really helped me.”
Bully In The Mirror is a beautifully written book by a remarkable young girl, speaking to children of all ages experiencing the epidemic of bullying in our schools today.
