Whenever I find myself in dialogue with a “teacher of tithing” in an attempt to develop a “scriptural” foundation for the modern day practice of “Tithing”, the discussion will inevitably, usually at a point where it’s pretty obvious that there is NO scriptural foundation for this practice in the New Testament, revert to this refrain; “tithing existed BEFORE the law {pre-law} with Abraham”.

Ironic how the reality of “animal sacrifices and circumcision”, both of which were “pre-law” are not vogue these days…!  They both existed pre-law so why don’t we don’t do them anymore?

Of course the usual retort to this is that Jesus “was” the ultimate sacrifice, so animal sacrifice is no longer necessary…BUT, the second part of the rebuttal is usually summarily dismissed, not supportable…!  What about circumcision?

As we examine the Holy Scripture “Exegetically” we’ll take a look at the “pre-law” foundation used by modern day tithe teachers.

We’ll look at the pre-law instances of “giving” in the interactions between ;

  • Cain & Abel (offering before God)
  • Abram (Abraham) & Melchizedek
  • Jacob & God (let’s make a deal)

We believe that you'll be blessed, enlightened and encouraged by doing so.  Give us a call, and join the show.
