Today's Guest: http://manishayogadance.webs.com/ Shanthi developed interest in Yoga, dance, Samskrtam (Sanskrit-an ancient language), drama, Chants etc., from a young age. As a school & college student and as a working woman, she had taken part in many events in drama, essay writing, debate, mono-acting, mime etc. and won prizes. She got the opportunity to be personally associated with the renowned Master Swami Chinmayananda and, through his lectures on authentic texts on Yoga (Bhagavat Gita and Upanishads), began her spiritual journey, highly encouraged by her father. She organized many service projects for the youth groups and conducted classes for children. She knows devotional songs and can guide Indians in the prayer ceremonies during festivals and special occasions (Puja Vidhi) She learned a classical dance form called Bharatanatyam in India and is in touch with the rich art form, through choreography, learning, teaching and performances, for the past 34 years. After attending Yoga classes for 3 months, she developed a deep conviction of its effect on body, mind & spirit. She has continued it as part of her daily life for the last 30 years. After attending a “Samskrtam conversation workshop (Sambhashana shibira)” her love for Samskrtam grew so much, that she began to speak with her daughter right from birth (last 15 yrs) in Samskrtam only. Shanthi understands the role of diet in maintaining physical and mental health. Though a vegetarian since birth, she has been strictly following Yogic diet for the last 27 years. She teaches Yogic cooking classes at home. With her grasp of “Sanatana Dharma” otherwise called Hinduism, she participated in a month-long Youth Seminar in Poland, Europe, representing the Hindu religion in 1990. She gave several dance performances there.
