Tonight on the show we spoke first about Stephen Colbert's address to US Congress on the issue of Immigrant Farm Workers. Stephen's prepared statement hit the topic and also poked a lot of fun at the Congress including comments like this one, "Maybe this Ag Jobs bill would help, I don’t know. Like most members of Congress, I haven’t read it". He poked many more stabs than that and you can see the video and read the entire transcript by visiting the links below. During a discussion tangent, a caller verified for us that as of last week, she knows that the rumor of being able to get fired for any reason and collect unemployment benefits is FALSE. Thanks for the call and the report!! Later we discussed a study by the Highway Data Loss Institute that states that the new "texting-while-driving" bans are not working. The institute shows that in four states (California, Washington, Minnesota and Louisiana) crashes have increased after the ban. The sole reason perhaps is that the police have to be held responsible for enforcing the laws and the consequences are not severe enough in our host's opinion. Links to the data on the 30 states who have laws are listed below.
