Sodo Mojo Offseason Pod: Ohtani, Gordon and Where to go now

    in Baseball

After a brief hiatus, we begin the show with the unfortunate news that Shohei Ohtani has chosen to play for the Los Angeles Angels. The Mariners gave it their all but came up just short. We discuss what might have gone wrong and whether Jerry Dipoto made a mistake trading prospects for International bonus money.
The Mariners made a major trade yesterday, acquiring Dee Gordon to play centerfield in 2018. What did we think of the deal? Are we worried about Gordon playing CF?
Finally, the Mariners offseason just cannot be over because Ohtani is playing elsewhere. Where do they go from here? Who is the #1 target for the Mariners now?

Conlon and Blake Taylor, Italian star Marten Gasperini, and Colombian prospect Erick Julio. They then discuss Derek Jeter's early days as a Marlins executive, the likely landing spot for Giancarlo Stanton, the latest developments in the lengthy Shohei Ohtani saga, and John Coppolella's demise and the severe penalties handed out to the Braves for infractions in the international market.  Finally, they debate the merits (or otherwise) of Joe Morgan's letter imploring voters not to put PED users in the Hall of Fame.

TTO Episode 100: Whether You Like It Or Not (Probably Not)

    in Baseball

Missing baseball already?  This episode will help at least as much as thumbing through old issues of Baseball Digest.  After a four month break, TTO shakes off none of the rust and talks life, Scoresheet, and everything in between.
We recorded this podcast a week before the World Series, but we saw our shadow when we came out to record, so it took a few weeks to get the episode uploaded.  Feel free to add that to your ever-growing list of complaints.

There's a lot of negative stuff to cover but the guys valiantly try to focus on the positive.
Can Theo Epstein keep the window of contention for this team extended for another few years? Ryan sure thinks so. But only time will tell...
And Joel is back with his patented 60 seconds with a former Cub.

Nats Nightly: Nationals shut out by Alex Meyer and the Angels, 7-0

    in Baseball

Mike Rizzo and Kris Kline always said Alex Meyer had potential, and the Washington Nationals’ 2011 1st Round pick showed his former organization what he had in a 7-0 win for the Los Angeles Angels tonight in Anaheim. Gio Gonzalez struggled with his command early, and gave up a big home run late, giving up four of the seven runs the Nats surrendered as the Nationals' six-game winning streak came to an end with just the second shutout loss of the season for the NL East division leaders.
