Interview from the Miami Book Fair Int'l 2009. William Grimes was the restaurant critic at The New York Times from 1999 to 2003. He then wrote book reviews for the paper before becoming its lead obituarist. He is the author of Straight Up or on the Rocks, My Fine Feathered Friend and Eating Your Words: 2000 Words to Tease Your Taste Buds, and the co-author of The New York Times Guide to New York City Restaurants 2004. His latest, Appetite City: A Culinary History of New York (Farrar, Straus and Giroux), offers a grand tour of the history of the city’s restaurant scene.
