    Happy Saturday Everyone!

In today's episode (besides heaing the dogs bark-ugh) we discussed how to apply Feng Shui tips to your outdoor spaces, garden and in your landscaping plan.  For refresher, here is our Bagua Board, which you will use to plot out your landscape scheme:

    Wealth/Abundance                Success/Fame/Luck           Relationship (social/romantic/biz)
    Purple                                                   Red                                    Red/Pink/Peach
    Water                                                    Fire                                            Earth
    Free flow lines                                    Triangle                                     Square

    Family                                       Health/Well-Being                         Creativity/Kids
    Green                                                Yellow                                            White
    Wood                                                 Earth                                              Metal
    Rectangle                                        Square                                            Circle

    Knowledge/Self-Empowerment    Career/Life Journey            Helpful Ppl/Travel
    Blue                                                        Black                                        Grey
    Earth                                                      Water                                       Metal
    Square                                                  Free flow lines                         Circle

Whenever you lay out this grid, you're entryway/door must align with the BOTTOM row.  Thusly, Wealth will always be in the far left corner and Relationship will be in the far right corner.  If you are laying out a garden, the "entryway" wil be how you approach the plot of land.  If you are working on your landscape plan for your entire lot, the "entryway" will be from the street.

You can use garden figurines, sculptures or other items to "activate" the 9 Life Areas, besides flowers.  Think angels/fairies for the Helpful People area, a small bistro set w/rose bushes for the Relationship area and a koi pond or fountain in the Wealth area.

***You can also place water features in the Career or Family areas to "activate" these Life Areas.***

    More ideas:
    1. Place METAL angel and/or fairy figurines in the Helpful People/Travel area.
    2. Place your grill, fire pit or chimenea in the Success, Relationship, Health of Knowledge area.
    3. Upward growing trees (arborvitea) is perfect for the Family and/or Success areas.
    4. Clay, brick, stone, terra cotta figurines of cupid or couples, or planters made of these materials should be used to contain "romance" plants/flowers in the Relationship area.
When working on the the garden/landscape, you can also take some cues from the Form School of Feng Shui.  If you remember from the first episode, this is where you want to place items (trees, bushes, fencing) that are HIGHER than your home (or office) BEHIND you for protection.  If the back of your home/building also faces north, this will help block the wind in winter and keep the house warmer.  Landscaping on the sides of your home/builiding should NOT be higher than the roof line.  You don't want the "oppressive" energy (chi) of the taller building pressing down on your home.  In the front, there should be nothing higher than 5 feet.  You want to be able to see all that comes to you, for security reasons AND for all the good Feng Shui energy.

***Plant thorny bushes in front of windows for security as well as to provide cover for nesting birds.***

When working on the front of your home or yard, there are a few things to keep in mind:
    1. Make sure that your entryway is clutter-free-this includes toys and such, as well as a well-maintained lawn and plants.
    2. Your entryway should be elevated from the street.  Not at or BELOW street level.  You want your guests, and energy (chi) to RISE as it enters your home not descending.
    3. Have moving items near the front door to attract the eye/energy to your space.  Think windchimes, windsocks or other whirlygigs.  Examples of this are car lots, even if you're not in the market for a car, you always notice where the lots are due to the moving flags!

Something to be aware of outside, are poison arrows.  Poison arrows are straight lines that conduct energy directly at you or your space.  Poison arrows can occur outside due to straight sidewalks, corners from a neighbor's house or a garage or utility pole/line.  Use a hanging crystal in the window that faces these arrows, or a Bagua mirror to deflect this bad energy.  You can also use trees, bushes or other landscaping to soften the arrows as well.  In terms of softening a straight sidewalk, you can alternate planting hostas or other "bushy" plants.  The alternating of planting will create the illusion of a curvy path and soften the straight line.

There are 5 Feng Shui flowers that can also be used, inside or outside, to bring about good Feng Shui energy.  White magnolias, orchids. lotus, peonies (perfect for SINGLES looking for romance!) and chrysanthemums.

I hope these tips will help you as you start to plan your garden!  Until next time, have a great day and Happy Feng Shui-ing...
