    Happy Rainy Saturday!

Sorry about the dropping of Deborah's call 1/2 through!  We have some nasty storms coming through Milwaukee right now...at least we got her back!!

Today we discussed CREATIVITY and how to bring MORE creativity into our lives.  If you remember, the CREATIVITY area of the Bagua Board in located on the RIGHT handside and is the center piece of the Bagua.  This is the area you want to work on to bring more creeativity into your life.  This area is activated by the color WHITE, the METAL element and by the shape of a CIRCLE.  Also, anything that you've made, or your kids have made, is perfect to display in this area.  This is also a great place to practice your creativity as well-either an art studio, or desk to write, chair to journal or place for your computer to Photoshop and print your pictures!  (We talk more about this in a few weeks with Gretchen Powers!).

Our guest today, Deborah Lighthart, artist and founder of the Feronia Wellness Retreat/Institute, shared some of her inspiration for her art.  Deborah is also a psychic and uses that energy/intuition to help her create freely.  You can check out Deborah's art at www.deborahlighthart.com.  It is really beautiful!

When Deborah is working with a client, she stated the biggest hurdle most have to get over when "trying to be creative" is SELF JUDGEMENT.  That inner critic that stops you before you even start a project by telling you you "aren't good enough"..."who do you think you are Steven Spielberg?"...or "you can't sell THAT..why even bother."  And so you don't.  Who cares?  You are creating for you!  And, you might find out that you really DO have a gift for photography, scrapbooking, writing...or, you might not.  I found out that I really stink at pottery...but at least I tried!  It cost me $80, 5 weeks of classes, and some pottery that looks like a 7 yr old made it (yes, my brother actually said that to me!)...BUT I had fun, got rid of a lot of stress and tried!  (remember our "coulda, woulda, shoulda" episode?  If not, go back and listen!).

If you find yourself stuck or in a rut when you are trying to, or have started a creative endeavor..Deborah suggested you DANCE!  Turn the music up loud and just start dancing It will open up blocked energy channels and get the blood flowing...A Feng Shui teacher also told me that as a way to get "psyched" to start de-cluttering...you couldn't helped to be pumped up after listening to some latin salsa music!  Go for it!

So there you go, there is no excuse to not at least try something new...even if it's a new flavor of coffee, taking a different turn to get to work...just try it!  You may find out that you don't actually like doing something as much as you thought you would, or that you really do stink at it...OR you may find a hidden talent that's been waiting to be found...You'll never know unless you TRY!

    Until next time...Happy Feng Shui-ing.....

    Happy Saturday Everyone!

In today's episode (besides heaing the dogs bark-ugh) we discussed how to apply Feng Shui tips to your outdoor spaces, garden and in your landscaping plan.  For refresher, here is our Bagua Board, which you will use to plot out your landscape scheme:

    Wealth/Abundance                Success/Fame/Luck           Relationship (social/romantic/biz)
    Purple                                                   Red                                    Red/Pink/Peach
    Water                                                    Fire                                            Earth
    Free flow lines                                    Triangle                                     Square

    Family                                       Health/Well-Being                         Creativity/Kids
    Green                                                Yellow                                            White
    Wood                                                 Earth                                              Metal
    Rectangle                                        Square                                            Circle

    Knowledge/Self-Empowerment    Career/Life Journey            Helpful Ppl/Travel
    Blue                                                        Black                                        Grey
    Earth                                                      Water                                       Metal
    Square                                                  Free flow lines                         Circle

Whenever you lay out this grid, you're entryway/door must align with the BOTTOM row.  Thusly, Wealth will always be in the far left corner and Relationship will be in the far right corner.  If you are laying out a garden, the "entryway" wil be how you approach the plot of land.  If you are working on your landscape plan for your entire lot, the "entryway" will be from the street.

You can use garden figurines, sculptures or other items to "activate" the 9 Life Areas, besides flowers.  Think angels/fairies for the Helpful People area, a small bistro set w/rose bushes for the Relationship area and a koi pond or fountain in the Wealth area.

***You can also place water features in the Career or Family areas to "activate" these Life Areas.***

    More ideas:
    1. Place METAL angel and/or fairy figurines in the Helpful People/Travel area.
    2. Place your grill, fire pit or chimenea in the Success, Relationship, Health of Knowledge area.
    3. Upward growing trees (arborvitea) is perfect for the Family and/or Success areas.
    4. Clay, brick, stone, terra cotta figurines of cupid or couples, or planters made of these materials should be used to contain "romance" plants/flowers in the Relationship area.
When working on the the garden/landscape, you can also take some cues from the Form School of Feng Shui.  If you remember from the first episode, this is where you want to place items (trees, bushes, fencing) that are HIGHER than your home (or office) BEHIND you for protection.  If the back of your home/building also faces north, this will help block the wind in winter and keep the house warmer.  Landscaping on the sides of your home/builiding should NOT be higher than the roof line.  You don't want the "oppressive" energy (chi) of the taller building pressing down on your home.  In the front, there should be nothing higher than 5 feet.  You want to be able to see all that comes to you, for security reasons AND for all the good Feng Shui energy.

***Plant thorny bushes in front of windows for security as well as to provide cover for nesting birds.***

When working on the front of your home or yard, there are a few things to keep in mind:
    1. Make sure that your entryway is clutter-free-this includes toys and such, as well as a well-maintained lawn and plants.
    2. Your entryway should be elevated from the street.  Not at or BELOW street level.  You want your guests, and energy (chi) to RISE as it enters your home not descending.
    3. Have moving items near the front door to attract the eye/energy to your space.  Think windchimes, windsocks or other whirlygigs.  Examples of this are car lots, even if you're not in the market for a car, you always notice where the lots are due to the moving flags!

Something to be aware of outside, are poison arrows.  Poison arrows are straight lines that conduct energy directly at you or your space.  Poison arrows can occur outside due to straight sidewalks, corners from a neighbor's house or a garage or utility pole/line.  Use a hanging crystal in the window that faces these arrows, or a Bagua mirror to deflect this bad energy.  You can also use trees, bushes or other landscaping to soften the arrows as well.  In terms of softening a straight sidewalk, you can alternate planting hostas or other "bushy" plants.  The alternating of planting will create the illusion of a curvy path and soften the straight line.

There are 5 Feng Shui flowers that can also be used, inside or outside, to bring about good Feng Shui energy.  White magnolias, orchids. lotus, peonies (perfect for SINGLES looking for romance!) and chrysanthemums.

I hope these tips will help you as you start to plan your garden!  Until next time, have a great day and Happy Feng Shui-ing...

    Hello Everyone-
I have to apologize for my "shaky" voice throughout the show...I had swallowed some coffee down the wrong point before I went "live" and I never got my footing back....SORRY!!

Today we discussed the 4 Life Areas that you can activate to help celebrate the upcoming Easter holiday!  First off, I talked about the KNOWLEDGE/Spirituality/Wisdom Life Area, which is found on the closest LEFT corner of the Bagua Board.  This area is activated by the EARTH element, Earth-tones/Blue color and squares.  You can also add ANY religious or spiritual item.  An altar, crucifix....whatever.

Next, I suggested the the FAMILY area.  This area is located on the left-hand side of the Bagua and center location.  It is activated by the WOOD element, the color Green and rectangle shapes.  Here is the perfect spot for family photo-taking/sharing, gatherings and/or your Palm fronds from Palm Sunday mass!

***The University of MN has an EcoFrond program that is Fair-Trade!  Farmers from Mexico and Guatamala are paid a fair price and are encouraged to harvest the palm fronds in a sustainable manner.  This also helps to keep the rainforests in current condition instead of being cut-down indiscriminately.***

Next, the CREATIVITY/Kids area was talked about.  This is the perfect spot to color your Easter eggs and put together your Easter baskets and gift bags!  This area is activated by the METAL element, the color white and the shape of circles.  Go Crazy and Have Fun!!!!

Lastly, I talked about the CAREER/New Beginings/Life Journey Life Area.  This area is located on the lower line, center segment of the Bagua.  This area is activated by the WATER element, the color Black and free-flowing lines.  THIS Life Area is PERFECT for focusing on for Spring as we concentrate on NEW GROWTH, NEW BEGININGS and NEW LIFE (literally!).  Keep this area clutter-free for new energy to flow into and throughout the home.

Here are some Feng Shui Entertaining tips for Easter:
to help activate the FAMILY area:
use SOUR food (olives/vinegars) and food s/b steamed or blanched
i.e. potatoes, fish, barley or white rice, cherry pie, chardonay, earl gray tea and/or apple juice
CHOCOLATE Pick: dark chocolate & mint

to help activate the NEW GROWTH/Career/Life Journey area:
use SALTY food and food s/b boiled or simmered
i.e. soups, fish (it IS a water area!), braised veggies, honey, distilled mineral water
CHOCOLATE Pick: dark chocolate & lavendar

to help activate the CREATIVITY area:
use PUNGENT food which should be baked or pressure cooked
i.e. ginger, garlic mustard, radishes, brown rice
CHOCOLATE Pick: dark chocolate & orange or grapefruit

to help activate the SPIRITUALITY/Knowledge/WIsdom area"
use SWEET food (hmmmmm, like chocolate?) which should be poached or stewed
i.e. corn, peas, syrups, cooked fruits, sweet veggies, chocolate
CHOCOLATE Pick: dark chocolate and vanilla or melon

Next week, we will talk about Feng Shui Fabulous for the Garden where we will focus more on the New Beginings and New Life that Spring, and Easter, bring into our lives this season...

Until next week, Happy EASTER, Happy SPRING and Happy Feng Shui-ing....
