    Feng Shui Fabulous-Clutter part deux

Hi Everyone-another one in the archives!

I want to thank everyone who is listening to the show...our listener-ship is growing weekly!  I want to make sure to invite everyone to the Feng Shui Fabulous group on Facebook.  Download photos, videos and comments of the show and/or projects inspired by any of the musings of a segment, book or Feng Shui in general!

We also have the Bante Design custom toolbar that you can download on your computer (its FREE) and have a direct connection to the radio show, website and columns.  There is also a RSS feed where you can get updates on radio shows or "design" news flashes!

We are also going to be opening up the Chatroom for the radio show 15 minutes prior to the show starting.  So, if you have a question, you can just write down in the Chatroom!  I will be taking phone calls in the near future, but until then, this is a way for you to have any questions answered.

On today's segment, we talked more about Clutter, specifically Relationship, Clothes and Paper clutter.  In a nutshell, in regards to "people" clutter-if you find yourself screening phone calls and emails and avoiding any and all contact with these people, see if you can stop it.  Not to be rude or mean, but start to disengage from the relationship and focus on relationships and events that serve a positive purpose in your life.  In relationships that can't be "gotten rid of", try to be focused in the encounters, only see them when necessary (a family member you may only have to see 1x a year, or a co-worker who walks past your desk for coffee) and have as little contact with that person as you can.

For clothes, if it doesn't fit, you haven't repaired/altered it or it's from a decade gone by...it MUST go.  Period.  If the item fits and is current, but is missing a button...from 2 yrs ago, sew on the button or get rid of it.  You obviously haven't missed it in 2 years!  We wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time.  Look at the 80% unworn clothes, and see what can go.  Your clothes should make you feel fabulous!  If you don't feel good wearing an item, get rid of it!

Paper clutter is a menace everyone faces.  The goal with mail clutter is to only touch the mail once.  Sit down and figure out your mail routine and see what/how you can cut down on how many times you touch the paper.  Have a shredder and your paper recycle bin nearby.  Shred and recycle asap!  File bills asap (or pay immediately on-line, or write out the check), put magazines/newspapers where you will sit down and read them.  If you aren't reading them in a timely manner, cancel the subscription and get news updates on-line.  Contact your accountant or the IRS website to see how long you need to retain various expense documents, tax returns, mortgage papers...Shred what you no longer need to keep.

For some quick organizing tips-remember to use vertical space.  You can display items up high, as well as lower...think of a photo gallery wall for cherished trip or family photos.  Picture railing or border can be made from collectible plates, or shelving around the room that displays collectibles...be creative!  Shadow boxes are also a great way to display items from a particluar event (wedding) or collection.  I've done this for clients with coin collections, movie collections and weddings.

Remember, if you don't love, need it, use it OR have it out to appreaciate it...it's CLUTTER and is serving no purpose other than a dust collector and something you lug around from house move to house move.  Get rid of it.  Make room for new items (growth, opportunity) to come into your life.  The artist Georgia O'Keefe never brought in a new item to her home until she got rid of an old item!

Keep these tips in mind...declutter...and let that fabulous NEW energy flow into your home!

Next week we'll talk about INTENTION and goal-setting and how Feng Shui can help you focus and move forward....

    Happy Feng Shui-ing....
