Feng Shui Fabulous for the HOLDAYS!

Happy Holidays!!  (yikes...where did SUMMER GO?)

In this episode I share some Feng Shui quick tips to help you get through the holidays OR to work w/Feng Shui principles to help activate positive energy so you, your family and guests can ENJOY the celebration & gratitude & abundance of the season.

Here's an article I wrote for my column that I think sums everything up for you (you have to listen to the radio show though for some menu tips!  Although: Thanksgiving is the WATER (abundance) element, you can use METAL to "amp" it up & Christmas is WOOD (family) and FIRE (success/celebration)...if you want to keep a "lid" on any family issues...stay away from the FIRE!!  Add WATER).

Are you getting tired of the same old red-and-green decorations? Would you like to add more meaning to some of your holiday rituals? How about adding some Feng Shui principles to your holiday gift giving and decorations?

Now, how do you apply Feng Shui to your holidays to usher in positive energy, new opportunities and abundance for you and your family? Let’s start with the focal point of most homes during the holidays…the Christmas tree. Follow these guidelines and enjoy a beautifully transformed home.

Use plenty of green. The holidays can be very stressful, so it goes without saying that using green, the most relaxing color, can have a cooling and calming affect on you and your home. In Feng Shui terms, green will also help to absorb all of the “fire” (action) energy of the lights, activity and red décor that is abundant in your home.

Angels and cherubs are lucky symbols. These items will help fill the room with good will and peace.

Start a tradition. Ask every family member and guest who enters your home to place something on the tree to put their mark/energy into the gathering and increase the sense of family and community.

Remember the Chinese phrase “five colors blind”-which means too much color, sound, and activity can create a numbing and exhausting affect on you and your family. After awhile, you will tend to look past and not notice things. Don’t put up decorations or play holiday music too early (We’ve all tuned out “Jingle Bells” and its 20+ versions usually by December 5th, right?)

Shake up your holiday color schemes from the traditional red and green, and try to incorporate some of these colors.

Gold & Silver: can strengthen your intuition and represents ostentation, money and fame. Use it if you want more recognition in the community, line of work and/or family.

Red: one of the most auspicious colors as it represents energy, passion and action. Word of warning-too much red can increase tension, anger and anxiety. If the holidays cause you stress and your blood pressure to rise, stay away from a red color scheme!

Blue: represents spiritualism, thoughtfulness, consideration, faith and aids in communication. Use blue to encourage more open conversation with family and friends. Also, it is a very calming and cooling color-great for helping you unwind after a crazy day at the mall.

Purple: considered the most auspicious color, as it is associated with high ideals, loyalty, royalty, truth and love. The color is used by high nobility and indicates power, riches and fortune. It adds a great touch of luxury and abundance to your home.

White: the color of mourning and loss in Chinese culture. Although our society views this color as representing purity, innocence and naivety, according to Feng Shui principles, you should not use this color.

Pink: a healing color also associated with love and romance. A soothing color that represents joy and happiness and lends a warm glow to the room.

Multi-colors: represents a union of all colors. Make sure to use on a green tree to balance and bring about an order and harmony to all of the colors. If you are unsure about what colors to mix, look to Mother Nature where green is a neutral. If you see the color combination outside, it will work on the tree.

Now, let’s examine tips for the rest of the house and tips on gifts to help bring about auspicious reunions, gatherings and events for the season and New Year. If you are hosting an event, make sure your entryway is warm and inviting. Can you enter without tripping over something? Does the door fully open? Remember that less is more here. Stand in the doorway and see what your guests see upon entering…do they see a festive room with lights and Santa or a jumble of wrapping paper and boxes? Keep this area neat, spacious and smelling nice (a natural candle or incense in pine, cinnamon, or vanilla is sure to set the proper mood). Your guests will feel welcome and ready to experience “glad-tidings!”

Adding some crystals, clear quartz or any other light refracting objects to your room will help add “positive energy” and light to the space. Hanging crystals from ceiling fans and lights is a great way to ensure this energy be spread throughout the home and the rainbows and prisms created by the refracted light will always bring a smile to your guests’ face.

Pictures can also help to enhance the holiday atmosphere in your space. Photos of family and friends taken at previous holiday parties will bring back happy memories (if not, don’t display them)! Displaying happy photos is a great Feng Shui practice that can help to nurture harmony and goodwill. Avoid decorating the home/room with artworks and pictures of sad events, overt gore and violence or anything negative, as this will create bad, undesirable energy. It should be noted that this tip goes for all the décor throughout your home/office all year round!

If you are planning on giving gifts this season, here are some items to stay away from:

Sharp Objects- Swords, knives, scissors and letter openers are not Feng Shui-friendly gifts since you can inadvertently send negative intentions, or “cutting” energy, towards the recipient with a sharp-edged gift.

Empty Wallets and Purses- If you wish to gift one of these items to a loved one, you can but remember to slip something inside such as coins, a few dollars and/or a picture. This will help to bestow auspicious “wealth” energy to the recipient.

Roses- These flowers are actually bad Feng Shui as they denote “thorny” love prospects! It’s better to stick to other sweet-smelling or romance related flowers with no thorny stems. Examples are peonies, jasmine, chrysanthemums, narcissus and lilies.

Timepieces- Watches, clocks or other timepieces are never a good idea as they represent a limited life span and always “watching time go by”.

To all of you and your family, have a happy and safe holiday season!

Housekeeping: Next week, the 29th is our SPECIAL on Gratitude, Abundance & INTENTION!!  We're still accepting stories & entries for our give-aways of autographed books from our guest: Esther Hughes & Patricia Sheehy!!  Show airs at 12p cst & will be fun, informative & hopefully, will give you lots of tips to shift your perception to a life filled w/abundance (no poverty thinking allowed!) & being more PRO-active in your life instead of reactive.

    Hi Everyone-
No guest today...so I got to wing it!  What I teach in my workshops is that 1st off, you need to look at WHAT you ACTUALLY have in your closet.  Have your Bagua Board in hand, know your 9 Life Areas and then organize your wardrobe based on this.  I guarantee you that there will be a couple of Life Areas that are missing....AND that the missing Life Area will be 1 that you feel stuck in, in a rut or is literally missing from your life!

Now that you KNOW what is physically missing from your life (i.e. clothes, accessories, jewelry) and thusly, the Life Area that needs help, you can a) go shopping, b) trade w/some friends (we used to do this in college!  I also guarantee you that each of your friends have "missing" areas of their wardrobes as well), c) go shopping in your closet and try and put some new outfits together!

It is possible to add to your wardrobe on a budget-Old Navy has dresses and skirts for $15!  Hit the sales, use coupons & shop wisely.  Remember that what is UNSEEN works just as well as what's SEEN-so hit Victoria Secrets, the lingerie dept at your local department store, and buy underwear in different colors, different styles and different materials to activate the needed Life Areas.  Examples:

RED lace for a date w/your significant other, PINK for a just beginning relationship
    PURPLE silk for abundance
TAN cotton briefs for health & well-being...Get the drift?

You can also utilize your accessories in this way as well...Think what Madeline Albright did w/her pins!  In fact, she has a BOOK about her pins and their meanings and what message they conveyed in meetings...Do a "madeline" and find an accessory YOU can really work & own, and find examples that represent the 9 Life Areas and start wearing them!

It can be easy & fun once you get the idea...Not only can you use this for YOU to activate a Life Area, but you can also use these principles in wardrobe help for specific EVENTS.  Thanksgiving is coming up...that's ABUNDANCE...Think purple, metalics for your colors.  Think the water element and the metal element for shape & material.  Think citrus (metal element scent) and Bergamot (water element scent) to wear.  So a purple shirt/sweater, w/metal jewelry and a scarf as a belt or draped over shoulders...Get how this works?  We'll talk more about this when we discuss Feng Shui Entertaining for the holidays in upcoming shows...

I hope you got some good tips, and another way of thinking how you can use Feng Shui in your life!...Happy Feng Shui-ing....DeAnna

    Hi Everyone-
    Hope you enjoyed today's show!

Ahhhh, the last minute got cut off for the down-load/archived version...here's what you missed:  Regina's last thoughts were that everyone should try and have a little bit of fun in everyday, no  matter your situation, as we attract what we think about (think Law of Attraction).  Make sure your perspective on your life is still positive and you can get through the worst of it.

We all know the economy is bad, and some are losing their jobs, can't find a job and are now becoming "comfortable" w/their unemployment...Try not to fall into the "poverty" mind-set and try to live abundantly, even in small doses, when you can.  Can't go to Starbucks every day like you used to?  Then REALLY enjoy the 1 time a week you CAN go.  Don't have a date for Sweetest Day?  Then be your OWN "sweetie" and buy a split of champagne and some chocolate covered strawberries and rent a great movie...that's what I did last V-Day when I didn't have a date.  It was great!  Think of what you want.  Then DO what you would do if you already had it.  Then sit back as you BECOME what you want.  It works!

We also had a great caller, Janice from DC, who asked a great question about her career and how Feng Shui could help her.  Listen for the response!  It was a wonderful call!  Thanks Janice!

Here is Regina's contact info for a reading, for product or to see what workshops & expos are in the works:

Here's Regina's bio for more info on her:

I began having “psychic” experiences as a very young child, after having a near death experience. We lived in a quiet community in Bergen County, New Jersey. My mother seemed frightened of my statements & told me never to say anything to anyone about what I was seeing or hearing, out of fear that they may take me away from her. Thus, I would sit by myself for hours, having no one else to talk to except for the Spirits.  I now realize that this was a great gift, bestowed to me by my mother.

As the years progressed; I raised my family & had a career in nursing, but I was still lead to readings for a select few. Now that my family is on their own; I have totally dedicated my life to the Spiritual & Metaphysical path, all the while teaching, counseling & guiding others that are seeking the same.  My motto in life is a day without learning something is a day wasted. Also, be respectful of all those you bump into. You never know when you’ll run into an Angel.
