Banner Schools Professional Development

Our President's Message: I started Banner Schools because I believe that each and every child deserves a quality education. Banner partners with public school districts to provide high quality special education, alternative education and education management services for the benefit of the districts and some of their most challenging students. Banner utilizes a goal-oriented approach in its programs. Banner’s faculty teaches students to set goals and then helps students reach those goals. Reaching goals builds the confidence and competence of each and every student enrolled in a Banner program. Banner employs innovative educational methods in its programs. For example, Banner program provides students with valuable work experience utilizing various community resources. In addition to a rigorous educational program, each student is required to work or volunteer for 5 hours per week. As a result, the students gain a sense of accomplishment, become more the world of work, and obtain valuable and marketable skills. In addition to the computer center, Banner uses similar educational methods in other areas of its programs. If you believe that a Banner program would benefit your school district and its students, continue to listen to our online Professional Development symposium and and visit our website at www.bannerschools.com. Thank you for taking the time to review our materials. I look forward to hearing from you. Eric A. Carlton President and Founder

Sharing the Vision of Student Achievement

    Banner Schools Empowerment Project
    Professional Development

As educators, we all know that professional development is a regular and necessary process from which develops, the mindset for success, the framework for performance, and the issues that matter to us, for our students; and issues that will empower teaching and learning. This year we are striving to implement strong, sustainable professional development that drives achievement to students' learning goals.

Despite our best efforts in the classroom, the fact is for some students academic achievement has not been a reality and for others managing behavior is often highly questionable. "What happens when a student does not learn?" “What happens when a student never learns to control him or herself and is still at-risk?” In the past, the response to these questions has been left to individual classroom teachers to figure out. Banner Schools is not willing to leave these critical questions to each teacher or each individual school to resolve alone.

Instead we are developing a professional learning community that will empower our network of Banner Schools and create a system-wide network of interventions. The professional learning community will empower principals, teachers and students with support when they experience difficulty in teaching and learning. The term professional learning community refers to our community of administration and staff at in the Banner Schools network and activities intended to improve the quality of leadership, teaching, learning and behavior management and the process by which such improvements take place.

The usual role of the professional development learning community will be to establish and support a collaboration of Banner Schools working units staffed with shared research and best practice methodologies which provide programs and services for colleagues. The professional learning community will empower Banner Staff at all our schools to help students improve the quality of life and transforming them from at-risk youth to responsible young adults who are positive and productive members of society and aimed for successful living.

The Banner Schools Empowerment Project adopts the shared vision for leadership within teams, is cast in coaching, set in reflection, rooted in collegial investigation, develops effective study teams, encourages explorations into the uncertain, encourages creative problem solving, thereby empowering teaching and learning at all Banner Schools.
