Today Tea Party Express made their first endorsement of the 2012 election cycle. Their first endorsement went to Jon Bruning, Attorney General in Nebraska. Bruning is seeking the Republican nomination to face Ben Nelson in 2012.
While I personally like Jon, I have not made up my mind about this race. Nor have most people in Nebraska, including local Tea Party groups. While Tea Party Express is a powerful organization and a great endorsement for Jon, and we're happy they have brought attention to Nebraska and this race, they in no way speak for the Tea Parties and grass roots groups in Nebraska. No one with TPE has contacted any local Tea Party leaders in Nebraska that I am aware of. The following is a statement regarding this endorsement prepared by 15 Tea Party leaders in Nebraska.
Personally I congratulate Jon on this endorsement. But I hope that Jon Bruning will seek the support of these groups and not only those of national organizations that have little precense at local and state levels until they roll into town, as the case with TPE.
