An island on the airwaves without a bearded dictator... A very special treat is in store for tonight. Ziva and I have a very guest special guest on the BabaluBlog Radio Hour starting at 9:00 PM for an expanded two hours. Renowned Cuban composer and musicologist, Aurelio de la Vega, Ph.D., will join us to discuss a topic near and dear to my heart and ears: Cuban music. But not just any Cuban music. Our main discussion will focus on the rich heritage of Cuban art music (that's classical music for all of you in Rio Linda) that is virtually unknown except to a few hardcore adherents, myself included. I've read Dr. de la Vega's biographical works in Grove's Dictionary and other journals and can say with some authority that he is a titan of knowledge on the subject. We'll discuss the history of art music in Cuba, composers Saumell, Cervantes, Roldan, Caturla, and Dr. de a Vega's long and storied career in Cuba and here in the United States.
