Tonight's show is an abridged recording of an event that was part of the Beyond Barbie performance series, which was produced by artist Susan Singer. Thanks to Susan for sharing this Beyond Barbie event on The Authentic Woman.

Host Shannon Fisher shares stories of her experiences as an activist, lobbyist and community organizer - and offers solutions we can use in our personal interactions to reduce friction when discussing political topics. She then interviews linguist, Kathryn Ruud, about the use of language in political propaganda.

Using examples from the media, Kathryn offers fascinating information about how political candidates use language and other tactics to polarize us. The audio quality of the portion of the evening that includes Kathryn's demonstration of the seven strategies of polarization that contribute to strong divisions in American society is compromised, so for the second half of the broadcast, we would like to direct our listeners to Kathryn's website for videos of her lecturing about these strategies.
