PULP FRICTION with Paul Levine welcomes Laurence Shames, best known for his series of Key West crime comedies, including "Florida Straits", "Sunburn", and "Tropical Depression".

Shames has just released "Shot on Location", his ninth Florida novel, and the first in a dozen years. During that quiet period, Shames was contacted by hundreds of readers who were concerned that he’d either retired or died. The truth was somewhere in between—he’d been working mainly as a high-priced but malcontented ghostwriter, storing up the frustrations and resentments that would eventually find hilarious release in the new book.

The hero of "Shot on Location"—surprise!—is a successful ghostwriter who’d rather be writing novels. He’s sent to Key West on a job he really doesn’t want to do—a tie-in book for a hot but brainless TV show. But then strange and criminal things start happening-- involving speedboats, Mafia, Hollywood executives, impossible actresses, a spooky blonde stalker, and a chihuahua.  Does the underdog hero find his novel amid the mayhem? And true love in the bargain? Let’s see if we can find out.

Interviewer Paul Levine is the winner of the John D. MacDonald Fiction award.  His latest novel is "State vs. Lassiter."  http://www.paul-levine.com
