WOW! Tyler Perry has gone and done it again! He's come up with a blockbuster movie that succeeds in depicting almost EVERY possible type of black woman and almost EVERY possible type of situation that black women have had to endure or overcome. It's an ALL STAR CAST whose characters intertwine while crossing paths similar to the idea of 6 Degrees of Separation, until pivotal moments begin to occur that brings these characters together. This movie IS NOT A MALE BASHING OR MORE SPECIFICALLY A BLACK MALE BASHING movie. It is a movie based upon black women and therefore it shows them in relationship with black men. THE CHARACTERS ARE REAL! THE ISSUES ARE REAL! ...but, more importantly, it, in my opinion, is a movie about OVERCOMING, picking up the pieces and moving progressively forward. I did NOT walk away from that movie hating men or hating black men. There was no one character that I could identify with, but, I did see bits and pieces of myself in several of the characters, pieces of who I used to be, who I am and who I'm growing to be. For me, this movie is not one necessarily that you leave the theater and make life changing decisions based upon what you got from the film. For the women who could deeply identify with any of the characters, it simply shows you that you're not alone and that there is a glimmer of light at the end of each journey. This movie is a reminder of our ability to survive, to persevere even in the face of the most tragic of circumstances. I give this movie a B or 3 STARS!
