AT THE MOVIES with Michele Brock

How many times have you heard a review of a movie by an acclaimed critic only to think just the opposite of that review? How many times have you seen a movie and/or actor, director...etc. win an Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, MTV Movie Award, BET Award or NAACP Image Award only to believe strongly that another movie or actor should have won? Well, I thought that it would be fun to create a BlogTalkRadio profile where we could get together and discuss these things, the quality of movies today and much, much more. Now, my primary focus is African American cinema, but, is not limited to African American cinema. In fact, members of the group can request that I add movies to be discussed to the list so that anyone who's interested can go see the movie and then we can meet back here to discuss it! So, please, why don't you join me here and let's have some fun!

MOVIE REVIEW: I Am Legend (2007)

I had wanted to see this movie only to support Will Smith and his work and to help with his ratings in the box office. However, I was a little hesitant because I learned that I Am Legend (2007) was a remake of The Omega Man (1971) with the part of Robert Neville being played by Charlton Heston!

The Omega Man had also been a great movie, but, I can't help but wonder why Hollywood keep doing remakes when there are so many scripts and screenplays being shopped around, room enough to have a supply of new releases for years to come! At any rate, I pretty much remembered the story and definitely remembered the ending of The Omega Man. So, it was like, why go see I Am Legend when it's the same old story with the same old ending. WOW! This remake was awesome! There was more of a real heartfelt story centered around Robert Neville's character, more direction and a specific goal that resulted in an extremely climatic and powerful ending! So, now I understand the remakes or at least this one. Similar to the theme behind "The Six Million Dollar Man":

"Gentlemen, we can remake it. We have the technology. Better than it was before. Better, stronger storyline, Oscar and Golden Globe worthy!"

I don't want to say anything more about the movie, but, trust, if you remember The Omega Man, then you're in for a real treat with I Am Legend. If you are unfamiliar with The Omega Man, then it doesn't really matter ... you're still in for a real treat! (smile)

MR CHAP MORNING SHOW

Yeah, although I'm not familiar with The Omega Man, I really enjoyed I am LEGEND. I was watching contently when it donned on me...there's no one in this movie but Will. The excellent writing, controlled wit, and rationed action had me on edge the whole movie.
