This episode features Charles R. Hale, co-founder of Artists Without Walls  (AWoW) a multi-cultural community of artists from all artistic disciplines whose purpose is to collaborate, create and showcase its works.  Co-founders Charles and Niamh Hyland believe that creativity thrives when there are no barriers to innovation or walls between cultures, thus, the name of the organization, Artists Without Walls.  AWoW is built on the core idea that the more contact we have with each other in a nurturing and collegial environment, the more collaborative the spirit and the greater the sharing of ideas.

Charles R. Hale, was born, raised and educated in New York. Charles, a descendant of New York City’s Irish famine immigrants, is a former partner of a NYC based consulting firm Hale, Borenstein Ltd., which specialized in succession planning for family-owned and closely-held businesses. He has a Masters in cultural history and has had a number of his family and ancestral history essays published in literary magazines.

Charles is a cofounder of the Irish American Writers and Artists’ Salon, which allows writers and artists the opportunity to present works in progress or published works at venues throughout the New York metropolitan area.  His film Walls: We Are Not Forgotten, about the life of  singer Judy Collins, was presented at the Irish American Writer’s & Artists 2012 Eugene O’Neill award ceremony, which honored Ms. Collins work in the arts and humanities.

Charles is also being honored, along with theatre producer, George Heslin, by CUNY's Irish Institute for American Studies in May for his work in promoting Irish American Culture in New York.
