Avid Astronomer Interested talking about astronomy in general other topics include the paranormal

I have lived in the rural areas of Australia for years but living in the suburbs is not so bad.
I do miss the wild life and the wide open spaces but every now and then I get rewarded by seeing something special. Living just west of Brisbane the birds are just fantastic, I mean the feathered variety.
See Photos From My Blog Site Normally I write about astronomical topics. Sometimes one need to step back and take a break, it is nice to just sit back and “smell the roses” and enjoy nature.
The area where I live has many trees and so far the developers have stayed away. The mornings usually brings an assortment of bird life form colourful parrots, magpies and Tawny frogmouths.
I was fortunate to have my camera handy the other day being a rather overcast and chilly day here in Queensland I happened to catch a glimpse of two Tawny frogmouth’s perched on a tree near the house.
At first I thought they were twigs but after listening to the calls and approaching slowly I could just make them out. The light was fading and I had a flash attached took several pictures. You can make out the shape of the birds. The red eye colour is the birds’ retina. Tawny frogmouths have yellow eyes.
Tawny Frogmouths are often confused with owls, but is not an owl there are 14 species.
They sit very still and look like part of a tree, their camouflage is exceptional and are often difficult to see because they remain very still. Frogmouths are commonly seen throughout Australia they prefer open woodland areas. Tawny frogmouths hunt at night and spend the day roosting on a dead log or tree branch close to the tree trunk.
Tawny frogmouth pairs stay together for life or until one of the pair dies. Males and females look alike, and are 35-50 cm in length.©

Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) refers to unexpected or unusual voices found in recording media.
Sometimes referred to as a form of after death communication. ITC is a newer term that includes all of the ways these unexpected voices and images are collected through technology, including EVP. Sounds a little creepy and it can be.
What is EVP all about?
Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) is the appearance of intelligible voices on recording medium that has no known physical explanation on how it got there. Many of the voices are thought to originate from deceased people. ( a theory I do not subscribe to)
This is the primary reason why people first began experimenting with EVP. Others like myself prefer to study EVP to better understand how and why it works, and to improve EVP experimental techniques.
When I started experimenting with EVP (some years ago) I began with just a small tape recorder or a reel-to reel using magnetic tape. Upon playing some of the recordings I could hear some sort of voice pattern mostly unintelligible was it a “voice”? or just some random noise that my brain interoperated as speech, I remain skeptical but curious.
At first the sounds I recorded were weak and scratchy sounding I could not make out any words but if I continued to listen to the sounds my brain began to try to put some sense to it by making it sound like a word I could understand.
The science says that the “voices” on the tapes can be caused by random electronic disturbances that embed themselves into the recordings altering the structure of the magnetic tape enough to cause a glitch that sounds like a voice pattern.
The recorded voices may be very quiet and are often difficult to hear and understand at first. This can be attributed to what psychologist call auditory pareidolia (interpreting random sounds into voices in their own language which might otherwise sound like random noise to a foreign speaker)
Personally I am not convinced that EVP is all about the paranormal, but I continue to experiment with the knowledge that, whatever is causing the phenomena must be better understood.
I have added some sounds that you can download and listen too, I am doing an unofficial survey to see if anyone can hear what is being said, please comment I will publish the results after the survey in another blog.
