Dr. Wesley Buchele earned his B.S. in Agricultural Engineering from Kansas State University, his M.S. in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Arkansas and his Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering and Soil Physics from Iowa State College (later, University.)

Dr. Buchele was a member of many prominent national and state organizations including the Society of Automotive Engineers, the International Society on Terrain-Vehicle Systems and the National Institute of Agricultural Engineers in England. 
Dr. Buchele has been granted over 20 patents by the U. S. government, the most well known being the patent for a, "machine for Forming and Handling Large Round Bales of a Fibrous Material." Additionally, Dr. Buchele is the published author of 18 books including, “Just Call Us Lucky,” which he wrote with his brother Luther Buchele. He also has a seven series collection of papers with the Special Collections Department of Iowa State University detaining his correspondence, films, professional activities, papers, patents, class materials and biographical information.
