Helena Jesele heard the song which has followed her like a lucky charm when she was a little girl. “I was like a shadow, I followed my mother everywhere,” she says. “She has a beautiful voice, and she used to sing Julie London’s “Cry Me A River”. And then she gave me the recording, and I sang it myself. She was the first inspiration.” By 18, Jesele was study art history (renaissance art is her other love) and anthropology in London. Afterwards, she got a good job in a gallery. “But I had this sinking feeling: I haven’t followed that passion, something’s unfulfilled.”
Chance meetings led to multiple jazz performances around the city and in 2009, Helena was heavily into her next crucial move: writing songs. After travelling the world for inspiration while working with A-list songwriters and producers, the world is finally hearing the first of many great compositions from Helena Jesele’s forthcoming full length album.
