A recent caller thought it blasphemy that we are here to become Gods, even the sons of God! So I pointed out it is his false traditions that are blasphemous. Jesus is bone of our bone, sinew of our sinew, and like us, except he is the "first-begotten" of the "father of spirits", and "only begotten" in the flesh, but we are his family, but the first-born being the heir, we then are co-heirs by meeting certain requirements. These are spoken of in the caller's own Bible, which I began to freely point out to him:
Jesus was confronted by the Jews at the Temple in Jerusalem with this same accusation of blasphemy, "That thou being a man, should make thyself god". John 10. So Jesus refuted and confounded them by quoting Psalms 82. This passage I now unfold unto you:
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power (Melchizedek Priesthood, saith the Lord) to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
