A modern version, called Mark Lichtinwalter, a student of the occult, cynically managing affairs to his advantage by similarly lying, capitalizes upon ignorance of low-information nominal LDS boasts of claims which have proven to be false in that they contradict the law and the testimony, co-opting the tesitmony of the One Mighty and Strong for his advantage to gain the praise of men:

More than thirty men hold higher authority than Elder Rigdon. Brother Joseph has said at different times, that if elder Rigdon was to lead the church twelve months, he would lead them to the devil.
