  • Let's Talk Too! Author Sadeqa Johnson

    in Books

    I'm your host
    Author Sharnel
        Guest
    Author Sadeqa Johnson;
Sadeqa- Love in a Carry-on Bag is finally finished! It’s been a long time coming. Can you believe I have been lugging this story around for over ten years? I’m talking about before I was married, bought a house and birthed any of my three children. I’ve worked feverishly on these characters during naptime, between feedings, in the midst of sleep deprivation with a sheer desperation to produce a story that will burn your fingers as you gobble up the pages. Trust and believe it hasn’t been easy and I’ve had to hush and crush those voices of self-doubt, fear and anxiety that kept urging me to give up, put on my Jones New York and find a job. It’s with pride that I stayed the course and after many ups and downs, false starts, agents coming and going, and almost-publishing-deals we have arrived!
Along this wonderful journey called life, I’ve also discovered the power of meditation and the importance of being Present to each moment. It’s so easy to become consumed with the ever growing to-do list in our heads and never stop to enjoy the blossoms of the tree. I’ve been leading a group meditation class for over three years and if you’ll take a look at my inspirational blog, www.sadeqajohnson.com, you will see that I’m quite candid about what I’ve been through, go through and the lessons that I’ve learned that continue to root me and lead me closer to who I really am.
    Love, Light and Laughter!

Live tonight Dr Allen Frances, MD and Scott Cluthe discuss Saving Normal & out of control psychiatric diagnosis in America.
From "the most powerful psychiatrist in America" (New York Times) and "the man who wrote the book on mental illness" (Wired), a deeply fascinating and urgently important critique of the widespread medicalization of normality
Anyone living a full, rich life experiences ups and downs, stresses, disappointments, sorrows, and setbacks. These challenges are a normal part of being human, and they should not be treated as psychiatric disease. However, today millions of people who are really no more than "worried well" are being diagnosed as having a mental disorder and are receiving unnecessary treatment. In Saving Normal, Allen Frances, one of the world's most influential psychiatrists, warns that mislabeling everyday problems as mental illness has shocking implications for individuals and society: stigmatizing a healthy person as mentally ill leads to unnecessary, harmful medications, the narrowing of horizons, misallocation of medical resources, and draining of the budgets of families and the nation. We also shift responsibility for our mental well-being away from our own naturally resilient and self-healing brains, which have kept us sane for hundreds of thousands of years, and into the hands of "Big Pharma".

The womb arit corresponds to the second chakra, representing the aspects of procreation, inspiration, and family.

Sephiri is an autistic boy who lives in a world of his own making, where he dwells among imagined sea creatures that help him process information in the “real world” in which he is forced to live. But lately he has been having dreams of a mysterious place, and he starts creating fantastical sketches of this strange, inner world. Brenda, Sephiri’s mother, struggles with raising her challenged child alone. Her only wish is to connect with him—a smile on his face would be a triumph. Meanwhile, Sephiri’s father, Horus, is sentenced to life in prison, making life even lonelier for Brenda and Sephiri. Yet prison is still not enough to separate father and son. In the seventh year of his imprisonment and the height of his isolation, Horus develops supernatural mental abilities that allow him to reach his son.

  • What Does God Say About That?

    in Books

Christianity today can be confusing. There are so many churches and it's difficult to know which one to go to, what each one believes and how to choose a church that is a true Bible-believing church that will teach only what God says.
There are many churches that do not teach exactly what the Bible tells us. There are churches that teach the Quaran and the Bible are the same and call this belief "Chrislam", this is wrong and a lie from the devil. Some churches teach that when you die there is no hell and that everyone goes to "Paradise", this is not true either. Some churches teach that "once saved, always saved", this is also a lie. Others teach that all roads lead to Heaven, but that is a false teaching as well. Only Jesus can lead you to Heaven. Some churches are called "mega-churches" because they have thousands of members and they teach only the "happy" things, or "feel good" sermons that don't tell the members that there are consequences for our actions after we die. There are even some who believe there is no God and when we die, that is the end and there is nothing more. Don't let any of these false beliefs leave you standing before almighty God and His Son, Jesus, to explain your life or why you didn't answer the call of the Holy Spirit to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior.
The Bible is very clear about salvation, Heaven & Hell; don't let false teachings rob you of your salvation, or lead you to believe that there is no Hell. Our spirits leave our bodies after death and we have to answer to God and account for our lives on earth - if you stand before God today, what will you say?
If you have questions you'd like to have answered live on the air, please send an email to marieontheradio@gmail.com.
    In Christ,
    Marie McGaha

  • Special Guest Author: Tess Thompson

    in Books

Tess Thompson is a mother before all else, and a writer after that. She’s also a Zumba dancing queen, though the wearing of the crown is reserved for invitation-only appearances. After honing her craft in theater with a prize-winning play titled My Lady’s Hand, her heart was called to a different storytelling medium: the great American novel.  But, as she recently said to a friend, “Well, maybe not ‘great’ but certainly American.”
The first of these, Riversong (Booktrope Editions), went on to become #1 on Barnes and Noble’s Nook Book chart in October 2011. Two years after its release, readership of Riversongcontinues to grow, spending weeks in the top 100 Kindle bestsellers; it’s known amongst her friends and family as “the little book that could.”
Caramel and Magnolias, the first in the Legley Bay Collection was released in the fall of 2012. In May of 2013 Tess released the sequel to Riversong called Riverbend and the third in the collection, Riverstar, in August 2013. Tea and Primroses, the second in the Legley Bay Collection was released February 16, 2014. The first in the Blue Mountain Collection, Blue Midnight was released June 30, 2014.
She’s currently working on her first historical fiction, Duet For Three Hands, which will be released December 2014.

Episode 27: Interview with Author Mike McNeff

    in Writing

Here's what awesome about Mike McNeff -- not only is he a retired cop and lawyer, he's totally open and fun to talk to. Put aside any worries about him being too gruff or unreachable. Instead, he's open, funny, and straightforward. His latest book Hard Justice: The Legend of Jasper Lee is an action-packed western, but his Robin Marlette series -- loosely based on some of his own experience while in law enforcement -- is also not to be missed. McNeff stopped by the show to share with us his own take on this wild writing world.

About Art

As Sondheim wrote, "Art isn't easy," but listening to people across the globe talk about it is! Our selection of shows that fall under the art umbrella is unparalleled, because we've got the world's most beloved authors, most talked-about actors and truly groundbreaking artists discussing their work, their influences and the creative process. On any given day, join in conversation with bestselling novelists, with museum curators on major fine art exhibits, with directors and writers whose films are the talk of Sundance or Cannes, with newsmakers whose latest works are changing the face of photography, mixed media or interior design. Spoken word is also voiced here, and other forms of poetry, as are journaling, crafts and more. Yes, BlogTalkRadio is bursting with self-expression; so if you've got a creative passion you'd like to share with the world, why not host your own show? We'll have you know, that part is easy.
