America's Resolve to Create Hope Campaign

Before the 1960's, the Democrats were the smarter party; and by that, I mean smart enough to play clever politics kind of smart. They knew the pulse of the country, and knew the arts of illusion well enough to use it to their advantage. With pious rhetoric, and knowledge of the bible, the Democrats swayed the American populace to their platform. Now, given, there were some justifiable and good things accomplished. FDR's initiative and realization that Americans needed help brought us the New Deal, and helped save this nation from being taken over by Communism and Socialism; which was starting to look like very logical alternatives during the Depression; not to mention we helped win World War II. However, something happened in the 1960's that changed all that on a dime.

In 1964, after almost ten years of steady fighting against injustice, the Civil Rights Act was passed. The Democrats finally realized that their pious lip service and religious allusions to the "separate but equal" philosophy of segregation was wrong, and simply a justification to appease it and win votes in the South. So, they allowed it to die; and the staunch state's rights advocates within the Democratic Party bolted for the door. A huge lobbying group within this party was gone; and an opportunity presented itself for the Republicans to claim it. Several Democrats who had been loyal to the party for years suddenly became Republicans-Strom Thurmond, Ronald Reagan, etc.

You see, the state's rights wing of the Democratic party was the wing of family-based initiatives. They believed that it was their duty to oppose anything that is seen as a threat to the family, or in actuality, their VIEW of what a family was supposed to look like. The threat of de-segregation meant that blacks, and other minorities, could now go to school with white children. All of this mingling could promote interracial and multi-ethnic families. The white supremacist view that they have a God-ordained entitlement to rule the world would be threatened as well.

Fast forward to today. These state's rightists, now firmly ingrained in the Republican Party for the last 40 years, oppose gay marriage for the same reasons. They see the Democratic Party as coddling minorities, and keeping them down; when it was their own diminishing of minorities that created this system in the first place. It has only been 40 years, folks. That is barely a generation from the constant reminders to the black community that they were subhuman, and did not count in this country. That is not enough time to heal from 400 years of bondage.

Now, 40 years later, the Democratic Party still champions that all Americans, and all human beings, should have liberty and certain civil rights. Still, 40 years later, these state's rightists, calling themselves Republicans and conservatives, refuse to hear the message of freedom that this represents, even for themselves. Theirs is a stance of repressiveness, as evidenced by their constant scandals within their own party of members who are not free to be themselves.

Will Rogers once stated that he did not belong to a political party, because he was a Democrat. That, in a nutshell, explains what the Democratic Party is. We wish to represent everyone, regardless of their differences; and ask that our government allow Americans to be who they want to be, individuals. Yet, we are called collectivists, communists, and socialists; which is exactly opposite of individualism. Why? Because, these same states rightists who had a years of experience using pious rhetoric and inaccurate references to the threat to family are doing it again. Now, instead of using fear to keep the negro "in his place," they use it to keep any kind of dissent from happening, by calling it unpatriotic. They use fear to say that we must become a police state, and ignore the Constitution's protections of civil liberties, or the Islamic extremists will take us over and set up Pariah Law across the land.

Cognitively, this makes no sense. If the reaction to 9/11 is anything, it is an example of what Americans will do if their ways of life are attacked. The "Islamofascists," as they are called, have no more power to threaten our freedoms than a bunch of banging cymbals. They are nothing but noise and fanatic violence. Now, given, the organization and planning of the attacks of 9/11 were as monumental as they were terrifying; as none of us gave the terrorists the credit of believing they had the ability to be that collective on an attack. Sure, there were warning signs; but did we believe that they could be so coordinated as to actually do it? Not to mention the, for lack of a better term, "****ing contest" between our law enforcement agencies. Had they shared information as we have tried to do in recent years, perhaps we could have avoided this disaster; but I digress....

In the upcoming election, the Republicans and Democrats have very differing views on the purpose of your votes. Republicans believe that we must vote out of fear-fear that if the other side wins, we will not be safe, we will be attacked on our soil, and that the results will be that one day we will all be either Muslim or dead-fear that our freedoms and way of life will be changed forever.

The Democrats believe that we must vote out of hope-hope that we can free ourselves from the destructive fear-mongering of the other side, and concentrate on becoming safer-we will bring home our troops so that we will have the manpower to protect our own shores; and the hope that an American still has the freedom of choice to be Muslim, or any religion, without being ostracized for exercising that right.

I live in a city of about 200,000 in Texas. It is predominantly conservative to the point that the City Council here literally legislates morality and religion into codes and ordinances. We can not sell liquor at the local convenience store or grocery, we can not gamble, we can not buy sex toys or porn, we can not go to a strip bar or watch the Chippendale dancers. Now, let me be clear. I do not drink or smoke; and I really could care less for porn or nudie bars. I have been married to a wonderful woman for 11 years; and I am pleasantly satisfied, thank you. However, I do believe in personal freedom; and the idea that the local government, or the national government, should have the right to legislate what a person wants to do with their own money and time scares the crap out of me. It is definitely a slippery slope, and a road that has not fared well in other nations (ie. Germany). Yet, I understand how they do it, because I have seen it with my own eyes. The Council here does what the Republicans on the national level have been doing as well; playing on people's fears that if we have those things here, it will threaten our families and American way of life-which is, according to these elites, a "Christian" way of life ONLY. (To be honest, I am surprised that we are still allowed to have sex here sometimes. lol)

I will make one assumption abundantly clear; and I am realizing this more and more every day. I am now under the increasing impression that the Republicans, states rightists, and Christian Right are trying to bring about the Messianic age themselves. They want Jesus to come back so bad right now that they are willing to circumvent the Constitution, create a police state and an imperial government, and crown the Anti-Christ themselves to get to that point. Yes, that's right! It is the epidemy of "self-fulfilling prophecies." So that Armageddon can come, and the Second Coming, and all the End Times prophecies in the Left Behind books to come to pass the elitist Christian right wants to make damn sure that those events have a controlled society to happen in; and they don't mind helping it along.

So, there ya go! Vote Republican, and vote for Fear and the police state that they so wish to happen to satisfy their End Times fantasies; or vote Democrat, and preserve freedom and hope, and the belief that we will be as we always have been, a free society.
