Joanne Haroutounian is the founder of the MusicLink Foundation and coordinator of Musiclink programs since 1992. She brings decades of experience working in leadership roles and consulting in music and gifted education internationally. Dr. Haroutounian is on the piano/piano pedagogy faculty at George Mason University and is an author, editor, and clinician of music teaching materials offered through Kjos Music Co. Her book, Kindling the Spark: Recognizing and Developing Musical Talent published by Oxford University Press, is a leading resource on musical talent development for researchers, teachers, parents, and college students in the combined fields of music education and gifted education.
Active internationally as a consultant in the areas of piano pedagogy, music, artistic thinking, creativity, and gifted/arts, Dr. Haroutounian recently was plenary speaker at the Pacific Asian Conference on Giftedness in Singapore and the International Symposium on Gifted Arts in Seoul Korea, speaking on musical talent identification and gifted/arts education for all students.
The MusicLink Foundation provides long-term private instruction to promising students in financial need across the country. This non-profit organization has reached 3,700 students across the United States, providing 250,000 hours of instruction, equivalent to $6.5 million of in-kind scholarship instruction by MusicLink teachers. The foundation provides discount lessons, music, instruments, camp sholarships, and performance experiences for MusicLink students.
