I think that it goes back to the fact that back in the day, most martial artists stuck to one style maybe two and could dominate in the ring. Nowadays, you will get killed if you are a single discipline martial artist. You have to have the full package and multiple weapons in your toolbox. I always adhered to that methodology. I studied under a second generation student of Bruce Lee, Sifu Michael Gonzalez(student of Ted Wong Bruce Lee's protege) as well as Chinese Wushu and Wing Chun. I believe
