Sugar cane can be found growing in tropical areas and can grow in certain conditions in sub-tropical area. Louisiana is one of the states that provide the type of weather and climate that can grow sugar cane. Most of the sugar cane farmers in St. Helena plant what is known as  red sugar cane.

Nurturing Our Roots Blog Radio host,  Antoinette Harrell had the opportunity to meet James Baker who has been making sugar cane syrup for the last forty-two years. He learned the  craft of making syrup from two eldely men in St. Helena and Tangipahoa Parishes, Louisiana.

Please join host Antoinette Harrell and co-host Dr. Okpara Nosakhere for this upcoming dicussion.
