African Americans in America were still held as slaves well into the 20th century according to the research of peonage researcher Antoinette Harrell. The horrible haunted system of slavery still haunts our society today. Historically, many of us do not want to discuss the issues of slavery. Many people all over the world thought that slavery ended in 1863 when President Lincoln signed the Emanicapion Proclamation.
