Some of our family members were so light-skinned that they crossed over to live their lives as those of European descent. Did you pass the brown bag test?

Family members lightened their skin, used a straighening comb, or whitening cream thinking they would be more accepted than their darker skinned relatives.

Please join our Hosts, Antoinette Harrell and Robin Foster as we discuss these issues which have caused great divisions.  Did those family members think that they were better than the darker skinned family members? What was the emphasis placed upon skin color and hair texture in your family.  Is this a form of self-hatred?  Where did we learn it?  Is this a legacy we want to leave behind?
