    Date / Time:

    The checkpoint place of Doubt.

there comes a point in your life when you turn to yourself and ask, "What is this doing for me?"  That is the basis for my show, here, as well as a key aspect of my other sites- I have the beginnings of a Myspace page as well as a gig on HubPages.  I'm an avid, RABID apprentice of spirituality and self-help philosophies, but I've recently reached the point where I'm starting to wonder- "What is this doing for me?"  "How is it helping me- IS it helping me?"

Now, there might be some resistance to these questions, or some with an apparently easy answer- "If you don't think it's working, don't do it?"  this might be a reaction to a sense of doubt and doubt is supposedly very, very bad.

But so is the bag of cookies in the next room!  That's more on my side, here, I assure you.  Doubt, like those cookies, have their place- part of the reason they're in another room! :p  Doubt is a the flag of a checkpoint in your beleif structure, when you might want to look inward and see if it's helping you, if you've slacked off or if it's possibly holding you back from something even better.

I'm tempted to use some gaming terminology, like Vampire wars, which I play on facebook.  (Okay, I'll let it roll.)  Everytime you reach a new level in this game, the program reminds you to upgrade your statistics- give yourself more strength, more defensive powers, energy or health.  It's not bad to do this at each level, but sometimes, I'll let it slide and try to score more points to use on the next level- which generally makes only a marginal difference and really does hold me back coz there's so much more I could be doing with a couple of extra energy or strength points.

It's a good thing to turn to yourself and see where you are and clarify where you want to be.  Doubts help remind you to do that.  But, like those cookies- or even that video game- you don't have to give in to every single one, you don't have to sit and mull over everything going on in your mind, body or affairs- just a quick checkup from time to time will help keep the goals in mind while also clearing up your mind and your life for bigger and better things to come in!

I'll let you in on an idea I recently had, a bit of a reaction to a doubt in my mind as to the path of this show- I thought I should develop it as more of a motivational tool for my prospecitve audience- where I wouldn't really take calls or take up an hour of airtime (Which, when you're not taking calls, you really don't need much in the way of time!) but I'd
offer inspiration and positive ideas to ponder for the week.

It, fairly quickly and quite rightly, occured to me that I'd be very similar- more or less a mimic- to all the great teachers I've studied most of my life.  I admire them all way too much- all the self-help gurus of the past couple of decades and the great spiritual teachers I've studied- I have a ton of respect for all of them and I don't really care to step quite so heavilly on their toes.

That being said, I felt I needed to set the doubt to rest and continue on my path towards developing and lending an inch or mile of clarity by keeping "An Ocean State" a place to reflect on what I and my audience believe from what we've studied and/or experienced.

So Let's check in, this week, and look at what we think and why?  Examine what ideas and beliefs have helped us and what we might want or need to replace.  I'll have about an inch of clarity, but I always try for that extra mile.  Please do what you can to join me.  Thank you for your time, attention and any effort you find yourself putting in!
