In a recent book group developed in my Center for Spiritual Living, we discussed wealth and non-attachment. I was intrigued as this seemed right up my alley- coming to the CSL's from a largely Buddhist background.
THEN... I got to live it. My would-have-been roommate got accepted to a university and she was no longer available to move into the 4 bedroom apartment. A family of five was slated to move into the 3 bedroom at the top floor of the triple decker that is my apartment complex- I didn't see much logic to that and I didn't really think I had time to find a replacement roommate with whom I had as much ability to coordinate with. I took the empty one bedroom and told the mother to take the 4 that I would move out of.
I enjoyed the thing for as long as I had it. And now I give it to those who can both afford it and fully appreciate it. That is part of the lesson of non-attached wealth.
I want to share these insights and more with you, this afternoon. I hope you will join me.
