The Life, Death and Impact of Malcolm X - A Fitting Close to Black Destiny Month

As-Salaam-Alaikum,

As we wrap up Black History / Destiny Month (please listen to last week’s show, for clarity), we will wrap up any “loose ends”, but cover the life, death and legacy of Minister Omawale Malik Shabazz, better known to us as Malcolm X (note: contrary to popular belief, he was named “Malik”, by his Teacher, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, before his departure from the NOI).

Even though it’s been 52 years since his assassination on Sunday, February 21, 1965, his Malcolm’s impact is felt, perhaps even more than when he was alive.

Social media is replete with his speeches, interviews and documentaries of this most noble of men.

His life and ordeals in my mind, are a reflection on how great we have been, how far we have descended, but more importantly, the limits we have yet to reach.

His life is worth studying, but of course, can never be complete, without understanding the dynamics of his role in and outside of the Nation of Islam.

When he did leave, he demonstrated a depth of understanding of the international nature of our struggle, which has been unmatched.
