Stop and Frisk. Need we say more? To many, these policies, in full force by NYC Mayor Bloomberg, are tantamount to a Police State, where black males are unfairly and disproportionately targeted to be checked for illegal weapons.
In response to criticisms from the black community, the Mayor has argued that such policies have saved lives (i.e. black lives), as guns that could have been used to maim or kill, have been removed from society. Others point to the stark realities of gun violence in our communities, arguing that something needs to be done, even as unpopular or invasive as it might seem.
Either way, we've got some serious problems to iron out, especially in light of the dire economic circumstances that loom on the horizon.
On Saturday, November 26th at 6:30 AM, A New Day for Al-Islam Aftershow will take on this very sensitive and volatile issue - NYC Stop and Frisk. Is it fair? Has it produced positive results? Given the present circumstances or perception, thereof, how would you, the listener, handle this?
Given the topic and the times, this is surely to be a most spirited show, which incidentally, marks the last, hosted by me, at 6:30. Beginning next week, this show, to be renamed CRITICAL DISCOURSE, will be moved to 7:30 AM. So, tune in with your thoughts and energy, and get ready for the ride!
