    SPECIAL GUEST Ysaye Barnwel, Sweet HONEY IN THE ROCK Ysaye M. Barnwell was born in New York City and has lived in Washington, D.C., for over 40 years. Her life experiences have taken her down three major paths. She began in music at the age of 2½, studying violin for 15 years with her father and majoring in music in high school. She sang in a choir while in junior high school and then in college. In 1976, she founded the Jubilee Singers at All Souls Unitarian Church in Washington, D.C. It was, there in 1979, that Bernice Johnson Reagon witnessed her as a singer and a Sign Language interpreter and invited her to audition for Sweet Honey In The Rock. Barnwell is also a Speech Pathologist with the Bachelors , Masters (SUNY, Geneseo 1963-68) and Ph.D. (University of Pittsburg 1975) degrees and was a professor in the College of Dentistry for over a decade. In 1981 she completed post-doctoral work and earned the Master of Science in Public Health.

    Dr. Nieca Goldberg is a cardiologist and a nationally recognized pioneer in women’s heart health.  Her New York City practice Total Heart Care focuses primarily on caring for women. Dr. Goldberg is Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine and Medical Director of NYU Women’s Heart Program, the Co-Medical Director of the 92nd Street Y’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Center, a national spokesperson for the American Heart Association’s “Go Red” campaign – an association for which she has volunteered for over 15 years and been a board member in NYC.  She was formerly the Chief of Women’s Cardiac Care at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.

    Dr. Goldberg has appeared on  many shows, including Today, The View, and Good Morning America, and her articles have appeared in many publications, including the Wall Street Journal,The New York Times and Fitness Magazine

    dina strachan m.d.Dr. Strachan (pronounced 'strawn') is a board certified dermatologist in private practice in New York City who specializes in medical dermatology.

    After graduating from Harvard College and Yale Medical School, she did her residency training at the University of California, San Francisco. Known for her excellence in teaching she went on to become Director of Resident Education at King/Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles, and join the faculty of UCLA.

    Dr. Strachan says:

    "I can think of many reasons that I became a dermatologist. Dermatologists have specialized knowledge that allows them to provide a service to patients as well as physicians in other specialties. I wanted to have the opportunity to work with all types of patients and get to use my mind as well as my hands."

Our Guests Dr. Linda Stillman is a specialist in cultural communication, interpersonal relations and gender issues. She continues to pursue an international career as a professor, consultant and advocate of progressive social development in alignment with the United Nations and international organizations. Dr. Stillman worked as a professor and consultant of intercultural communication, social interaction and international affairs in several European countries for nearly 20 years. Linda participated in diplomatic endeavors as a corresponding journalist and writer/editor for various governments. She founded/ chaired diplomatic and cultural organizations in Morocco, Yugoslavia, Iceland and Germany to promote charity initiatives, as well as international goodwill and understanding. She conducted intercultural activities and organized many events to serve the needs of international and local communities in each country. Now, in New York, Linda teaches culture/gender communication and the United Nations Women’s World at Pace University, and culture, comunication and public speaking at Yeshiva University. She also gives presentations to organizations on the UN and social development issues.
