This evening we will focus on how Mothers and Motherhood was viewed during the time of Antiquity in regards to The Mothers.

We were teaching on and Yeye Osun of Ifa Orisa, (Het-Heru of Kemetic tradition) known as Isis of Ancient Egyptian tradition.  Isis also held a place at the Roman temple, even though she was a foreign deity. The Festival of Isis was used by the Romans to commemorate an important battle that marked the beginning of winter, which lasted for three days, featuring mostly-female dancers, musicians and singers.

It is fascinating to know that the Mother and Son imagery of Isis and Horus, where Isis cradles and suckles her son; is extremely similar to that of the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus. Do you suppose that the Europeans, the Fathers of Catholicism stole the image?  It is something to think about!
