    A Nation Under God

America, what does that word mean to you? To most it means a land of liberty and freedom. A land not afraid of self expression and a land where individuals are free to worship God, without fear of persecution. If we go back to the beginning, we will see this great country of ours was formed for the purpose of religious freedom. Fleeing the grasp of the controlling monarchy, into a new land destined to be the United States of America.
As Christians we know this. We understand our country has been blessed due to the willingness of our leaders to allow the word of God into the structure of this great country. But if we stop and really look at what goes on around us, we as Christians know there is a problem, which needs our attention.
Edmund Burke once said "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."
Crime plague our cities like a virus, infecting our children, and taking the lives of the ones we love. Is it freedom to allow for that, which ultimately will destroy? Do we as Christians, do all that we can to stand in the gap, and be a voice for the good, or could we possibly do more? In 2 Chronicles 7:14 it reads:
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Whether Christian, or not, the problems our nation faces are real, and without a doubt a majority of all people would agree that to apply the principals found in God’s word would have nothing but positive effects on the whole. If we look into the book of Daniel, and read the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. We will see three young men, though placed in rather high positions, when it came to following what the others did and ignoring the word’s of God .They chose to stand on God’s standard, and not yield to any other. For that reason they were delivered from the wrath of the King, by God himself. Meaning; We as Christians have a choice. Stand on the standard on which God laid before us, or yield to that which opposes God. We must stand on what we know is true, and right, and not by our own ideas of truth, but only that of God’s. If we are to be a true “Nation under God”. If we do this, God gives his word to heal our land. People would ask how I can help. It starts much  like a older Chinese quote says: A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step , and To get through the hardest journey we need take only one step at a time, but we must keep on stepping . We as Christians do have a great deal to do with the policies and structure of our country, and more of us need to stand up and take that one step, and say “I am here, and I want to help”. Most of all big events in the history of the world, started with one man, or one woman. Are you that one person? Is God calling you today? Will you step forward and be that person today? Let us be a voice for our children, and for their children. Let us put God back into the big picture of things, and stand on his promise today.
