Our national motto reads, "E Pluribus, Unum" - from many, one. Nineteenth and early-twentieth century immigrants embraced that motto and all it represents. Today one whole American political party contemptuously rejects it. But without the commonly held, uniquely American system of values bequeathed us by the founding fathers, what would there be to even hold us together as a nation?
