Cruz vows to shun negative campaigning

“There may be other candidates who choose to throw rocks in my direction,” the GOP presidential hopeful said in an interview aired Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I’m not going to engage in the personal mudslinging, in the negative attacks on people’s character.” Cruz last week became the first Republican to officially enter the presidential race. But he insisted that, despite his reputation as an archconservative and a bomb-thrower, he had avoided personal attacks over the past two years in the Senate.

(CNN) Indiana Gov. Mike Pence says concerns that his state's new "religious freedom" law will allow businesses to turn away LGBT customers is the result of a "tremendous amount of misinformation and misunderstanding." But he refused Sunday to answer at least six yes-or-no questions about whether the measure legalizes discrimination against gays and lesbians. And he said he won't support legislation that would clean up the public relations mess by adding protections based on sexual orientation to Indiana's anti-discrimination laws.
