    Date / Time:

Our FedCon Disaster show ... not a disaster! Hooray!

I am still not sure how we pulled it off.

Over the weekend, I decided that we would do a segment featuring a couple of people involved in the FedConUSA disaster one way or the other to try and air some of the issues attached to that fiasco.

Well, a couple people turned into seven people. All at once. :)

And I thought it was going to be a nightmare. On Tuesday, our scheduled guest, Patrick Lee from SciFi Wire, had to pull out (we'll bring him back in August or September) because of work conflicts so I had to scramble to find a replacement. I called Rod Roddenberry, but forgot he was in Canada for the Trek convention up in Vulcan, Alberta, and then decided to ask David Weddle, a supervising producer for "Battlestar Galactica" who joined us for our "Battlestar Galactica" special a couple months back.

David wanted to come on, but he couldn't come on live because of work constraints, so we had to set up a time before the show to record him. Since I hadn't recorded a phone conversation since the last time David was on, I opened up my MacBook, and tried to figure our what program I had installed to do the recording. I found iToner and felt that was the one ... but the license had expired (or I had never registered it). So I paid $15 and registered it, only to find out it was something that does crap for my iPhone.

Then I found which program does the recording, and that I didn't have to buy a license because I had already done it before.

David had a lot to do, and was trying to do a million things at once (David, thanks for taking the time!), and it took us about 15 minutes to get connected (I couldn't figure out why sound wasn't being recorded until I realized the mute button on the recorder software was on).

So we do the interview, lose him once, and then his battery is dying so we're trying to get it done. We finish up, and I go to the recording bin to grab the audio ... and it's not there. I panicked ... it was 6 o'clock, and I needed to get the audio edited for air, but there was no audio there to edit!

Before I got too wild, I decided to dig through all my data folders, and yaay, I found it! Why it was not showing up in the recording bin, I don't know, but I was able to edit and upload the interview.

And to be honest, that was the end of the problems. I was able to hash out my script for the show with 30 minutes to spare. All of our guests came on with no problems ... we had like 45 people in the chatroom, and I think the whole show went off without a hitch!

Thanks to everyone who came on! I don't know how we did it, but somehow we did, and this is a show I think will go down in the record books for us. :)
