Sorry, Dunker ... but we absolutely warned EVERYONE at the TOP OF THE SHOW that there may be spoilers contained within for ANY SHOW that is broadcast already in the United States. I couldn't make that warning any clearer. If you chose to continue listening, KNOWING that "Torchwood" has aired its COMPLETE season in the United States, then I'm sorry, that was your decision.

WTF, I live in Canada and Season 2 of Torchwood has NOT aired but thanks for ruining it for me...

Our FedCon Disaster show ... not a disaster! Hooray!

I am still not sure how we pulled it off.

Over the weekend, I decided that we would do a segment featuring a couple of people involved in the FedConUSA disaster one way or the other to try and air some of the issues attached to that fiasco.

Well, a couple people turned into seven people. All at once. :)

And I thought it was going to be a nightmare. On Tuesday, our scheduled guest, Patrick Lee from SciFi Wire, had to pull out (we'll bring him back in August or September) because of work conflicts so I had to scramble to find a replacement. I called Rod Roddenberry, but forgot he was in Canada for the Trek convention up in Vulcan, Alberta, and then decided to ask David Weddle, a supervising producer for "Battlestar Galactica" who joined us for our "Battlestar Galactica" special a couple months back.

David wanted to come on, but he couldn't come on live because of work constraints, so we had to set up a time before the show to record him. Since I hadn't recorded a phone conversation since the last time David was on, I opened up my MacBook, and tried to figure our what program I had installed to do the recording. I found iToner and felt that was the one ... but the license had expired (or I had never registered it). So I paid $15 and registered it, only to find out it was something that does crap for my iPhone.

Then I found which program does the recording, and that I didn't have to buy a license because I had already done it before.

David had a lot to do, and was trying to do a million things at once (David, thanks for taking the time!), and it took us about 15 minutes to get connected (I couldn't figure out why sound wasn't being recorded until I realized the mute button on the recorder software was on).

So we do the interview, lose him once, and then his battery is dying so we're trying to get it done. We finish up, and I go to the recording bin to grab the audio ... and it's not there. I panicked ... it was 6 o'clock, and I needed to get the audio edited for air, but there was no audio there to edit!

Before I got too wild, I decided to dig through all my data folders, and yaay, I found it! Why it was not showing up in the recording bin, I don't know, but I was able to edit and upload the interview.

And to be honest, that was the end of the problems. I was able to hash out my script for the show with 30 minutes to spare. All of our guests came on with no problems ... we had like 45 people in the chatroom, and I think the whole show went off without a hitch!

Thanks to everyone who came on! I don't know how we did it, but somehow we did, and this is a show I think will go down in the record books for us. :)

    SyFy Radio --David Weddle/FedConUSA Collapse

Join Michael Hinman as he welcomes an expanded show to TWO HOURS as we talk to some of the people who were affected by the collapse over the weekend of FedCon in Dallas. But before we bring them on, David Weddle was one of the writers for the mid-season finale of "Battlestar Galactica" and he will join SyFy Radio to talk about some of the secrets of the episode! (Tentative)

  • Date / Time:

David Weddle from Battlestar Galactica on tonight ...

    Hello, everyone!

We have a VERY special show tonight, and so big, we had to expand it to two hours at www.BlogTalkRadio.com/SyFyRadio

First, we'll welcome back "Battlestar Galactica" writer and supervising producer David Weddle in a pre-recorded interview to talk about Friday's mid-season finale of the SciFi Channel hit show. Weddle is a last-minute fill-in for us as we originally had scheduled Patrick Lee, the editor-in-chief of SciFi Channel's online news site, SciFi Wire. Patrick is on location to covering a movie shoot in New Mexico and had to reschedule, and we're happy to have David Weddle coming back (although his appearance will be pre-recorded once again because of schedule constraints).

In the second hour, we're going to host a panel discussion on the collapse of FedConUSA in Dallas. There is reportedly an investigation by state authorities of the convention organizers who are the same group that were practically forced to refund tens of thousands of dollars to fans of "Star Trek: Enterprise" who thought they were donating money to fund a fifth season of the UPN show. The convention started as planned, but was canceled midway through the second day in the middle of a panel being hosted by John Billingsley of "Enterprise." Many actors who were scheduled as guests were waiting at airports for tickets to attend the convention, and many have publicly attacked the convention for leaving them stranded.

The guests on that panel include:

Mike Cope, a radio journalist with Wendlee Broadcasting who was covering the convention; John Champioin, a reporter for DVD Geeks and TrekMovie who also was covering the convention and interviewed the son of the con organizer who took charge during the cancellation; Chris McKeown, the former Webmaster of SciFiUnited who left the TrekUnited team during the fallout of the convention fiasco; Scott Meritt of Pegasus Publishing who was a vendor at the convention; and Tim Kennedy and Cole Houston from Vadercast, who also were covering the convention.

Larry King, eat your heart out!

Anyway ... all of that starts TONIGHT at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT at www.BlogTalkRadio.com/SyFyRadio.

  • Date / Time:

FedCon talk this Wednesday on SyFy Radio!

    Hello, everyone!

So how about that show last Wednesday, eh? hehehehe! Wow ... talk about the perfect storm of things to go ... but we made our way through it, and I thank everyone for being troopers and understanding that such network issues are very rare here at BlogTalkRadio, and the people that run BTR do a great job in trying to keep thousands of shows up every day. :)

Anyway, just some programming notes that I thought you should be aware of ...

We're going to be bringing in some people affected by the collapse of FedConUSA over the weekend from an old "friend" Tim Brazeal. Brazeal was the man behind TrekUnited, a fan campaign that was under heavy investigation by SyFy Portal three years ago, and the main reason why I warned against this convention last August (looks like I can say I TOLD YOU SO!)

Sadly, there were fans, vendors and more who were negatively affected by this collapse and broken promises. We're going to bring in some of those people to talk about it. We also invited both Brazeal and someone from FedCon Germany, but I doubt they will want to come on and talk about their huge mistakes -- including the fact they failed to tell anyone they were no longer associated with the American convention until it was too late.

We're expanding the show to two hours Wednesday night to make room for everything, as we do NOT want to bump Patrick Lee again. Patrick is the editor-in-chief from SciFi Wire, and we're very happy to have him on, and we WILL have him on this coming Wednesday. :)

Also, after Daniel Malen next week from The TV Addict, we'll welcome Anthony Pascale from the great Star Trek Web site TrekMovie on July 2 and then on July 9, we'll welcome Tony Tellado, who now has his own BlogTalkRadio show called Sci-Fi Talk Live.

And don't forget .. .later in July, we'll have on George Takei from Star Trek. We're just finalizing exactly what episode he'll join us on. :)

  • Original Air Date:

    SyFy Radio -- Jarrod Cooper/DoctorWhoNews -- EDITED

This is the edited version of the Jarrod Cooper interview along with the 2008 SyFy Genre Award nominees. Because of technical problems, we redid the scripted portions, and then played the original interview with Jarrod Cooper from Doctor Who News.com.

  • Original Air Date:

SyFy Radio -- Jarrod Cooper/Doctor Who News

Join Michael Hinman as he welcomes one of the writers from DoctorWhoNews.com Jarrod Cooper. Jarrod has been traveling around in his Tardis taking in the sights and sounds of Doctor Who and Torchwood. See what he has to say about all the changes to the universe, and how it might affect fandom.
