Once a popular weekly live online radio show, Alpha Waves moves to podcast format and has returned with original host Michael Hinman!

    Date / Time:

Apollo 13, or a night at SyFy Radio

I have to admit that our new sound equipment compared to my cell phone sounds AWESOME!

I just wish more people were able to listen to it live.

For some reason, BlogTalkRadio decided to poop out last night. I should've realized there were going to be problems when i was 90 seconds from beginning the show, and I heard a warning message on the line telling me that they couldn't find an available server for the show. Apparently they found one, but it must've been one they kept in the closet or something for a long time. (Yes, I'm kidding!)

But those are the kind of things that happen sometimes, and not even BTR is perfect, although they are close to it. If you were listening live last night, and you couldn't hear the feed, please know that normally you can, and BTR is great at making sure you can (and with terrific sound!).

I got a friendly note from John Sweet from BTR (these guys are awesome ... I can't believe they do such direct communication with show hosts, despite having THOUSANDS OF THEM) letting me know that the error message I heard before the show's start time wasn't an error message, so I stand corrected on that. It was something I never heard before, and it sounded like an error to me at the time ... but who knows what goes through my mind a minute before I'm supposed to go live. :)

So a lot of people either were hearing us talk like chipmunks, or weren't getting the live feed at all. Those who could hear it normally heard what was a great conversation with Eugene Roddenberry Jr., but he was driving through an ion storm or something, and we lost him twice, and the last part of the interview has him on the worst-sounding cell reception ever.

Also in the middle of that, the switchboard I use through BTR that allows me to run the show crashed twice. And that's not fun, because then I can't control any aspect of the show ...

BTR had nothing to do with Rod's cell phone ... that was Rod's cell phone's fault, hahaha! But John told me that last night's problems were temporary because they were doing some work on the server in an effort to make the shows even better (and make room for more hosts), so please don't feel that it will always be like that, or really be like that again. The live feeds from BTR normally sound great, and it takes very little to get them to play. And we promise that next week's live feed will be a lot better, so please come back and listen again!

If you couldn't hear the live feed, download or stream the archived version ... at least that is sounding OK.

I can't get over how good the sound from my end is. I hated how I sounded on the cell phone, and the equipment we are using now is giving us beautiful studio quality sound, so I'm glad we were able to get that figured out.

Roddenberry shared a lot of great Star Trek insight with us, and even told us what it was like growing us the son of Gene Roddenberry. He's never afraid to answer any question, and that's what we like about him.

We also had Jarrod Cooper return from DoctorWhoNews.com who talked a little bit about the Season 4 premiere of "Doctor Who" without giving any spoilers. And, of ocurse, we had the amazing Dr. Dan Compora, who writes the SyFy 101 with Dr. Dan column for SyFy Portal, talking about the possible return of "Jericho" (again) through a possible new deal with Comcast.

So take a listen to the archived show, and get ready for next week when we welcome Darren Sumner from GateWorld.

And hopefully, people will be able to listen to it live. :)
