    Mercedes-Benz E-Class Performance

Wielding a 382-hp V8 (whose performance is maximized through no fewer than seven speeds from the automatic transmission) the E550 has no problem pinning its occupants to their seats. Lean into the gas, and it feels as if this Benz is being whisked forth on a giant wave, so insistent and uninterrupted is the power delivery. The surf is definitely up here — 391 pound-feet of torque is available from 2,800-4,800 rpm.

    Honda Pilot 4WD Touring
    Design/Fit and Finish

The Pilot drew polarizing opinions in this regard. Some think the roughly textured black plastic that covers much of the dash looks and felt cheap, while others appreciate its low sheen and view it as a conscious effort to make the cabin feel more rugged. It also seems unlikely to be a cost-cutting move by Honda (as cheap plastics always are), since the rest of the cabin is of such high quality. For instance, those 55 buttons feel especially well-crafted and substantial. Kudos also should go to the gauges that are both crystal clear and pretty nifty-looking.

    Function

Interior storage in the 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid is varied and useful, for the most part, though there are no large storage areas. Small nooks and medium-size bins are plentiful and scattered throughout the front-seat area, but rear-seat storage is limited to seatback pockets and shallow door bins. Two adjustable cupholders by the front seat work well and can be hidden completely by a sliding door, but there are no rear cupholders or rear armrest.
