The African American label was created for Indigenous Afro Americans in 1988, not by us. Jesse Jackson was the figurehead given credit for coining the term, but he didn’t invent the African American moniker by any means. As African Americans, Indigenous Afro Americans have had to deal with the crack epidemic, assimilation, disenfranchisement, marginalization and now rampant police brutality. We’ve had an African American president in office for eight years now, but how as it benefitted black folks? What advancements have the African American community made in terms of nation building? Has the African American stunted our efforts to gain resources? Join me as we have an in-depth discussion on the African American and the created has hurt us.
